I was going to get a Playstation Vita for Christmas but now I can't! :(
After I have alot of votes I'll show Sony how many purchases they're losing! Maybe they'll find a ways to release it sooner? *clinging to false hope*

I can't really say I'm too excited for the PSP Vita. All I use my current PSP for is a dust magnet, and I was looking forward to getting that thing.
It's probably been demoted so badly because I've lost interest in gaming while out of the house. And since I can't see that feeling changing anytime soon, there is no way I can justify spending any amount of money on portable systems.

People seem to be excited about the Vita and I don't know why. I guess an extra analog stick for camera is nice, but that's about it. I'll be keeping my PSP.

I'll be buying one come launch day, but I'm not 100% sold on the 3G version yet.

Still, it works as a PS3 controller, has two touchpads, a built in camera, and plenty of other stuff that does make it worth that price tag. All it needs is a bit more must have software lined up and ready to go and the system should be fine.

Does anyone know is the PS vita can play PSP games, because the number of purchases they get is probably entirely dependent on this aspect alone.

I don't care about Uncharted or Little Big Planet so no.

Maybe once they get some games for it and a better price point then maybe. The only decent games on the PSP were ports of PS1 and PS2 games (oh and Half Minute Hero)

If they removed all of the stuff like 3G and gave us a regular screen instead of bumping the price up with pointless touch screens then yes. I'd probably buy one.

Neither do I, but that didn't stop me busting out my GBA for a bit of Metroid Fusion at the airport the other day :p

Handheld gaming isn't about "playing games whenever and wherever you are", it's more about "you will not always have a TV & Console or a PC available". Long train rides? DS is perfect for that. Killing time in the waiting room at a Doctor's office? Fire up the PSP. Obviously you can play them whenever you like, but handhelds offer a lot more flexibility with when and where you can use them - especially ones like the DS where you can literally just pause the game indefinitely by closing the lid and resume at any time by opening it.

OT: Personally, I didn't like the PSP and I don't think this Vita looks much better. I've always preferred Nintendo's handhelds.

I think the line-up looks really promising. I'm quite excited about it so yeah, I'll probably get one whenever it comes out; not too fussed about when that is, though

I'll buy it when Monster Hunter eventually comes out for it.

God only knows when that will happen. Capcom needs to localize those games more. Japan's not the only country with people that will go nuts over a game like MH. They just need to build up the fanbase, which won't happen until the games actually start becoming more widespread.
People like to pretend the Wii sucks and most PSPs out there are either hacked homebrew/emulator machines or are collecting dust. So, a good multiplatform version would be great. I'm thinking Wii U, Vita, PS3, 360 and PC.
