Okay, come on... seriously? You are blaming the victim? "Its the girls fault for dropping it."... No one is to blame in something like this, least of all the victim.

I would have either left where it was [small](I know nothing and wouldn't gain anything bad from doing so)[/small] or searched for that person.

Nobody made a big deal after she "explained" it.
However they didn't have to hear all those voice mails asking when the original owner was coming back. After listening to all those messages I decided not be like my cousin. Plus my dad explained to me a bit about kharma. My cousin is gonna get hers real soon and for my involvement my phone was stolen a week after this incident. Life goes on though.
I almost feel sorry for her parents, she has the potential to be a cause for concern if they're not careful (even though it sounds like she is already).
Life does go on, hopefully it will contain less of her. At the very least you learned something from the experience.

Agreed, blaming the victim for carelessness doesn't help the situation in the slightest.

It makes douchebags feel better though.
I would return it, if only for the possibility the person might be a really hot chick......yes I'm that shallow, but in the end no harm done right?

No, I probably would have given it back.

I'll save going against my conscience for better things, like murder!
You sir, have ninja'd me.
Although, my conscience never REALLY existed, it's just a hideous warped 'thing' now.

....*twitch*......*twitch*twitch*..........*takes a deep breath*......
Okay, before I lose it(and strangle the little children beside me), I will explain why this could never happen.
*ahem*
1) I am practicing to become a massage therapist, I play games, I play piano and bass, I love drawing and making clay models. All this together means I'm very good with my hands,(you should get the rest)
2) Never had a complaint from a girl before( unless moaning counts) and I've dated some real bitches.
3) Its probably the only thing I pride myself on, and losing that would mean......I-I-I'm worthless......

I would look for the person and return it... Losing a phone is a severe pain in the ass, and it wouldn't be hard to contact the owners, i.e the contacts in the phone.

Recently on a trip to a casino my cousin found a phone. clearly it was in someone's back pocket but it must have fallen out. Seeing how no one was looking for it near the ride/game she kept it.
Later on she makes ME delete everything pertaining to the woman who owned the phone. As I was forced into doing that, the owner sent a message: "we can't get back home without that phone, PLEASE bring it back."
I felt guilty and wanted to give it back but my cousin reminded me about how over half of that lady's stuff is gone forever and I might get arrested.

So of course my cousin got the phone but I scared the shit out of her by saying she can be tracked due to the gps on the phone. (there was no gps but my cousin still FLUSHED the SIM card)

My question is: Would any Escapist out there have done the same? (or returned it)

Also I highly doubt they couldn't have gotten home without a phone.

Let me add a bit more info.
We were on the the top floor and because my dad had won a few hundred bucks, I was off to the arcade. I saw the Arcade version of a game i LOVE so I ran towards it and my cousin ran there too. She notices the phone (a blackberry) and she puts it in her front pocket. I asked her to give it to a lost and found but instead she runs off. Every time I wanted to bring it up she would change the conversation and before we left she told me "Do you know how many people are here?! It would take FOREVER to find the owner! It's their fault for being so stupid!"
And so that's what happened AT the casino.
What she did to make me help her is gradually explained.
You and your cousin are the WORST kind of people.

Seriously, if i ever lost my phone only to somehow find out 2 little kids had deleted a load of my personal shit and flushed the freiking sim card the law would be no deterrent for what i would like to do.

difficult call. (horrible phone pun)

But I think that I would want to return the phone, but would struggle with my conscious as I walked around with it in my pocket/etc.
Eventually I would probably give it to a lost and found, or just leave it somewhere though (like a *****)

I believe in Kharma, because I once found an Ipod and returned it, and then I won one in the school raffle...
So I'd have returned it...
Th-that isn't how Karma works...

Well you probably shouldn't have done what your cousin told you and erase stuff from it you are still a kid you can't let anyone, except your parents, tell you what to do. It was your cousins responsibility to return it. You could have at least told your parents about it.

It's already pretty much been said that it would have been best to give back the phone. I understand that's hard with the threat of violence hanging over your head; frankly, I'd be halfway tempted to report your cousin to the cops. Just because it wasn't guarded doesn't mean it wasn't theft- it was clearly identifyable, and not particularly difficult to return, at least prior to the data being wiped from it.

Your cousin had better hope that the next time she's careless and in danger of losing something or being hurt, anyone who's in a position to prevent it isn't a callous miscreant like her.
