hell yes, i would try. But if he caught me with my pants down, with a gun in his hand, there wouldn't be a lot going for me in that fight...

My dad and I have actually worked it out that I can get the keys to his gun cabinet, get the cabinet unlocked, and have the rifle out and loaded in about 20 seconds. I would warn the guy first, but would not hesitate to shoot him if I thought he were going to harm me or my family.
In my house there are too many sharp things to not kill him. The situation would depend on so many things, what kind of mood I'm in, if there's anyone else home. Chances are I would at least knock them out with a bit too much force and kill him or he would trip over a power cable and impale himself on something.

If something like this happened, I'd try to subdue and disarm him, then call the police. If it was absolutely impossible to do that without killing him, then I guess I'd do it. I probably wouldn't have time to think properly about it anyway, I'd just act on my instincts.

I love the way you are all asuming that if a guy enters your home brandishing a gun you would man up and "disarm him" or kill him "in a heart beat". The fact is in this hypothetical situation, he has come over with a gun by suprise, you would have no time to react, he would either shoot you dead or (like every other rational being on the planet) you would try talk him down in terrified state that YOU WOULD BE IN. See this is what games do to us, make us believe that in this scenario a bunch of reflexes weehave never displayed before would kick in, we'd disarm and knock out the guy/girl or pull out are own colt forty five and shoot him down.Doesn't happen in real life people...unless of course he had a villainous monologue prepaired, then maybe you might survie long enough for the police to save your ass.

Here's an opportunity for controversy: I don't think it matters if he's wrong in the head. If him being wrong in the head makes him try to kill me, then so be it: as far as I'm concerned that is a blank check for retaliation unless and until he is no longer a threat. I chose yes, because if somebody broke into my house, threatening the lives of me and my family, I would kill him, I know for a fact I would. how I would feel afterwards I am not so sure about. Taking a life is a pretty big thing, not something you could just do and then forget about, atleast, I don't think you could.
I would probably be all terrified and all, but if he pushed me over some hidden line, like theatened children if I had them, or worse, my dog, not only would I kill him, I would mutilate and destroy him whilst meticulously keeping him alive so he could feel my wrath.
