I'd say, I have a better idea I then pull out a pistol, shoot the fuck, curb stomp his head off Gears of War style, thus killing him and keep the helmet thus giving me endless entertainment. No? Fine, shoot him dead and destroy the helmet. Alright, I'll just kick his ass out the door...

EDIT: Re-read the topic: a VR helmet? Seriously? If I want to live in a virtual world, I'll break out the bong and play video games.
I vote this option, Hell I'll invite my mum and my friends we can all enjoy our "Perfect world" intill we run out of weed.

The problem with this is that as you use the helmet time would continue as per normal though it would be very easy for the authorities to capture you whilst you are incapacitated and otherwise "out to lunch" playing in your 'perfect world', all of a sudden you wake up in an interrogation room, the police have confiscated your helmet and you're screwed.

Problem solved, it's not a moral dilemma, it's a simple question of 'how stupid are you?'.

First of all, if the helmet is a virtual reality thing, you would probably starve to death or something while you where wearing it. Also, if the helmet worked without him killing all of my loved ones, what's to stop me from killing/subduing him and taking it?

In this scenario, no. If the scenario was such that I legitimately became god, maybe.

i might try something wierd like create a time machine in my perfect world, go back, kill the evil dude and give my past self the helmet.
if thats not allowed then....... maybe, it mostly depends on how he kills them.
P.S. unlike most people, this is a hard decision because i don't want to have their death on my hands, not because i want them to be in my perfect world. don't get me wrong, i love my family, its just i don't want them involved in the kinda of things that would happen there, they may die anyways.

You weren't very clear on how the helmet works. Does it simply project this perfect world onto your mind, like most of the responses so far have assumed, or actually give you the ability to create and control your own world?

If the former, than fuck no. A perceived reality could certainly be impressed upon the mind enough to eventually completely deceive it, but I would not accept the offer knowing it would all be a lie. My loved ones would not be experiencing this world with me, as they would be dead.

If the latter, however, and I could create a whole new world and control it completely, than I would accept in a heartbeat. In my perfect world, all of my loved ones would be instantly brought back to life should the aforementioned scenario scenario occur, thus rendering the consequences moot. All that other stuff about being able to control the fabric of reality would just be a bonus.

Yeah, but throughout history ethnic groups have killed people they don't necessarily know to live in what they consider a more perfect, pure and safe world countless times.

Point being, some may say no, but it happens and if we are persuaded enough of how wonderful (damn you hope) the world would be, we might really say yes.

This is in response to expwnit.

Have a good one guys! No killing the darkies.

Without my girlfriend, it's not perfect. Anyway, it's called lucid dreaming. Live in the real world by day, and the perfect one by night (or, whenever it is you sleep). I can already do that, why would I need this extra shit controlled by this guy I've never met before? For all I know, he'll kill me too the moment he hooks me up. So my choice is pretty clear I think.

No deal. I love my loved ones. That is why I call them my loved ones. No virtual reality would ever replace the people in my life.

For those saying "It's not a perfect world without my loved ones" - it's a virtual reality helmet. Your loved ones don't need to be alive in the real world for them to be present in your perfect world.

For those saying that imperfection is required for true happiness - you have been programmed to believe that unhappiness is required to appreciate happiness. That way people can be more content in their lives despite all the imperfections; this "moral" is meant to placate the masses, much how religion used to be used to manipulate poor people into accepting their lot so they wouldn't revolt against the rich. If this virtual world is truly perfect, you will never feel bored or unfulfilled.

That said, this question can basically be summarized as "would you backstab your loved ones for you own happiness". Just because -from my point of view- my loved ones are still alive and well in the "perfect" world doesn't give me the right to inflict pain on them or kill them in the real world. Only a selfish and self-centered person wouldn't be able to put themselves in the shoes of their loved ones and understand why getting killed wouldn't exacting be on the top of their priority list.

I don't think this guy is destined to be a successful businessman. His product is cool, but his marketing sucks.

I have a better question. Would you kill yourself to let your loved ones line in a perfect world?

Let's say one day while you?re enjoying some breakfast you answer your door to a stranger. You have never seen this man before in your life and he is just standing there holding a single briefcase. Eventually you two find yourself talking over a bowl of Cheerios.

He then brings up a proposition. He reveals the contents of his suitcase to be some freaky sci-fi helmet-VR projector. He explains that with this helmet you can control your own world and do what ever your mind desires. Though the catch is you have to allow this man to kill all you loved ones in order for the machine to work. (I know that just sounds insane but just follow it.)

He gives you an hour test run in your "perfect world". He then disconnects you and asks if you want to live in your perfect world forever and let your loved ones die or just kick him out and continue eating your Cheerios.
I'd tell him that he sounds like a crackpot and he's probably scamming me. In fact it'd be unlikely that I'd let him finish his sentences once he got to the "kill all my loved ones" part, and I certainly wouldn't let him give me a "test run", fuck that shit. I'd likely chase the guy out of my house with a fucking baseball bat. But not before I found out why he wanted to kill all my loved ones.

Besides I live in an almost-perfect world pretty much right now. I can settle for that.
