Would you become a cyborg if you had the opportunity? Personally, I wouldn't. I don't like the idea of being superior in such a definite manner to the average person. I don't see anything wrong with others doing it, but I don't think that I'd like to do it myself. What about you?

Would I let myself? That implies some sort of struggle, I'd do nothing to stop it. OK, assuming it's safe and all - I don't want to be faulty after my improvement - it sort of runs counter to the goal of the whole thing.

I don't think I'd be very into having anything cut off and then replaced with a 'superior' replacement, but a couple of extra arms would be pretty cool, provided I would be able to use them with the same dexterity that I do with my existing arms etc. Possibly a tail as well, you can never go wrong with having a tail. A third eye with night vision?

Basically extra stuff yes, self mutilation no.

I wouldn't be one of the first adopters. I'd give it 10 years to see if there are any nasty side effects.

Even then I wouldn't get anything cerebral or that could be wirelessly controlled. I don't want people messing with my brain or remote controlling my body.

Other than that, hell yeah I would. Night vision, robot eyes would be awesome.

Hell yes.

But only if:
(a) It didn't make me look like Gunther Hermann.
(b) No nasty side effects.

We assume no side effects or societal shame like "your not a human go away" and stuff? becuase yes thats a thing.

My answer: i would sell an arm and a leg for it. Let is a wrong way to describe it, demand more like it. I would give up A LOT to become a cyborg. i dont like this flail bad of meat and bones that i am stuck in.

I would do it for injuries and life threatening issue that is if I am allow to escape death. By all mean I wouldn't want to be immortal I mean if I had a diease or a serious illness (something that can end my life early).

I wouldn't cut off any limbs or anything like that, but enhancements to my eyes and various other parts would be useful (bullet-proof supermodel body, anyone?), and having some body strength enhancements would be great. I would rather not get first-wave models though, because many of those would be clunky as fuck. Wait until the kinks are ironed out.

Do the benefits of me doing so (including but not limited to increased awareness, better reaction time, better efficiency) outweigh the downsides of me doing so (including but not limited to potential malfucntions, price, problems with durability, social stigma)?

If yes, yes. If no, no. Unlike many people I wouldn't go be a cyborg just so I can go "RAAAAH look at me flexing my cybernetic body, FUCK YEA BITCHES!!!" and anyone with a tazer can short my circuits.

It'd actually have to be, y'know, useful on a day-to-day basis without all those nasty side effects such as vulnerability to electromagnetic fields and interferences, hardware malfunction, rejection reactions by my immune system...

So yea, in the end it's a completely pragmatic decision.

Yes. In a heartbeat. And unlike some of my fellow Escapists, I'd even be a guinea pig for augmentation. Health problems? Pshaw. I wouldn't care because BOW BEFORE MY AUGMENTED MIGHT, PUNY MORTALS! TREMBLE IN FEAR!

Joking aside, I really would willingly sign up to be a guinea pig for augmentation. Given my medical history, I probably wouldn't be chosen, but I'd still sign up. Yeah, health issues are a concern, especially the issue of rejection, but all things considered, I'd risk it. Augmentation holds too many benefits for society as a whole, and for myself personally, to not take the chance. I'm not usually the type of person to give a shit about society, but in the case of augmentation, I'd be willing to put my dislike for mankind aside to do something great for it.

If we're talking about after augmentation is proven safe, and is on the market as cosmetic surgery? Well, yes and no. Yes because fuck yeah, cyborg me up! Less talking, more augmenting! No, because the likelihood of augmentation being affordable is slim to none, and I ain't exactly financially well off. This of course gets us into the issues of classism, the wealth gap, and the effects augmentation as an expensive procedure would have on said issues, and this makes me a bit nostalgic for Danyal and his constant banging on about the Singularity, which, some have theorized, could have similar societal impacts. And that, oddly enough, makes me think of bestiality, which, if you knew Danyal, isn't a weird connection at all. And I'm rambling. MOVING ON!

If we're talking after augmentation has become a basic human right, and therefor free(pffffffffffft), then i divert to "fuck yeah!" as my answer. I mean, as long as I'm not getting some shitty D-model or something. Like, I'd rather have an "average human strength" model that only needed a tune-up every so often to a superhuman model that needs constant maintenance.

when it comes to appendages, no.

when it comes to upgrading wet memory and my nerves. hell. fucking. yes.

i mean, who wouldn't want to have 100 percent perfect memory, i know i would want 100 percent perfect memory.

and having reaction times that aren't fucking shit, whoa man sign me up.

hell, maybe even give me high rez cameras in my eyeballs so my eye sight won't be shit like it normally is.

sorry i'm gushing i just really find augmentations cool is all

I definitely wouldn't want 100% perfect memory. As it is, there are things I wish I could unsee.

I wouldn't do it just because I could. I'm kind of attached to my limbs, and would prefer to keep them as is. But if I was in some sort of accident and had to have, say, an arm amputated, I'd totally go for a sick new robot arm. You know, my arm and leg get stolen by some ethereal souls in return for my brother's soul so I get some super robotics. It's just a quality of life thing. Now what finishes is that available in? I do like brushed chrome, although the tungsten plating does look nice.

As for the low-key things, sensory enhancements and the like, then we're just balancing risks/difficulties against rewards/usefulness. If it's a relatively safe and pain free procedure for useful lifelong benefits, sure. If it's painful and risky for a mild enhancement to be rolled out as a party trick, I can probably do without.

Yes, if it is shown to be safe and doesn't have any negative effects that I care about (augmentation DRM, advertisements beamed directly into my mind, or even malicious exploitation and mind control are all things that would make me avoid them, assuming the nature of the augmentations allows for these things), I don't see why not.

Well if I am 25 years old and my heart fails I'd change it to a bionic one.
Would I cut of a limb to make it robotic? Nope!

No, however tempting it might be. I might do it if I have an injury that calls for it, but if it's something like losing two fingers then I'd leave them be.

If you wear glasses or take medical treatment of any kind then haven't you already augmented yourself? It's hard to draw a line.

And hell yes, but only after some careful consideration of the risks & benefits. I don't want to inject stem cells randomly into my injured tissues like some people are, because it will probably give me cancer.
