I think they should go the other way and subtly imply that he is a mute and has been such all this time. A voice could only ruin him imo.

I'd rather not have him talk. I would, however, like it if they mentioned that fact in-game; maybe the Gman points out Gordon's inability to speak, or Alyx flat-out confronts him (more than just "you're the silent type, huh").

You mean like how Samus talked after years of silence in Other M?

Oh yeah, because that went down so swimmingly.

Keep a lid on it, Freeman. It's for your own good.

I'd be interested in finding out. It kinda worked in Dead Space 2. Part of the whole schtick of HL though is Freeman not talking. He's not just inaudible to the players; he just never talks.

Unless it's Ross Scott aka Freeman's Mind guy, no. Maybe it's because I've watched too much Freeman's Mind, but it'd be really weird for me to hear his voice be anything but Ross.

Hell no, keep him (me) silent.

Games like Dishonored are better for having silent PC characters, I wish more would take stock. Especially RPGs, Dragon Age 2 is a classic example of how to ruin a franchise by adding a voice to the PC.
Really? I thought Dishonored's Corvo was awful because he was silent. Why give the character a face, history and a name, but not only keep them silent, but give them dialogue options? Make's it quite creepy how Emily's so happy to see you and how everyone respects you.
Yes, really. :)

Why do you have to have the dialogue options voiced? Going back to Dragon Age, the original had plenty of dialogue but none voiced by the PC. As others have said, keeping the PC quiet allows us to become whomever. It's really shit when you're forced to sit through some bad dialogue from an annoying character you control, I much prefer filling in the blanks myself.

That's the thing, in games like Dragon Age and several RPGs the dialogue options are there so you can project yourself onto the character, but the way characters interact with Corvo almost makes it seem like they're talking to somebody other than you... but I won't judge, if it didn't ruin Corvo for you it didn't and I can't/won't change that.

He shouldn't talk. He was made to be a silent protagonist and the whole game is kinda based around the fact that you just observe the events and don't have much control over it.

Better to have him be silent than have a voice and not say anything important (Master Chief, Isaac Clarke)

No, it would completely ruin it. Gordon Freeman is the original silent protagonist. Not only would everyone hate him talking, but it would also be pointless to keep it low key.

What would be the point of him saying "yes, no, right?" It would convey absolutely nothing as well as breaking player immersion and starting fanboy riots.

As a randomised (and perhaps humorous) internal monologue? Yes, please.

As dialogue in the setpieces Valve uses instead of cutscenes? No. Never.

Certain things are iconic to certain games and if you change them then its not a sequel because its not actually the game anymore. Did Gordon NEED to be silent? no but now 4 games latter that is what he is known for, that is what Halflife has used to say "This is a Halflife game", everyone knows Gordon doesn't talk and people can make up themselves what he is actually saying or nothing at all. So no he shouldn't talk

The video posted before is hilarious BTW

Edit to add: is the guy voicing that the same one who does unskippable? because it sounds like him and has similar humor style

Absolutely not. I wasn't in favour of it before, but after seeing how Isaac Clarke turned out in Dead Space 2, I'm even more against it.
