It costs the equivalent to U.S. $22.50 to see a movie at the cinema here in Tokyo, so I don't do it very often. captcha-tesla coil

Well let's see. They charge outrageous prices while still making you sit through ads to finally get to a mediocre movie that really isn't worth the rental cost at Redbox. Now, they want to throw anti-piracy ads in your face even though most people IN THE THEATER paid their money and aren't bootlegging. Nope, I won't miss them. I can live without the overpriced, but delicious popcorn. In fact, when friends invite me to go, the only reason I consider it is for the popcorn and then I say no.

It's weird; as much as I hate trying to enjoy something while surrounded by the unwashed general public (people who clap at the end of films should be chemically sterilised; people who talk over the movie should be shot on the spot), and as infrequently as I actually use them, I'd sure as hell miss cinemas if they winked out of existence.

It'd be the same if restaurants or libraries ceased to exist; sure, I can order takeout or cook, and I can still buy books, but it just wouldn't be the same as going to a big building full of the respective commodity and experiencing it in its fullness.
