Quoted for truth, does not affect if I want to play or not play it. If it is a good game and the main character is gay well so be it. But sadly I know so many people would not play it so no developer will ever do it because a huge amount of people would not play it.

The only reason for a character to be gay is if the player makes them gay or if them being gay has heavy significance towards the plot.

Otherwise their sexuality is hardly an issue. Master Chief could be gay and it wouldn't make a difference.

More on topic: I don't think I'd enjoy a plot-heavy game involving a gay main character, but that's really only because I don't think I could identify at all with him (Or her). I suppose it would depend on how it's played out, but as I imagine it...I wouldn't be interested.

But really, why would this even be a part of a game? It seems rather silly, really. Sexuality in a game just seems like a marketing ploy. Leave the options open if you want (Fable, Sims, etc), but to make it a focal point just seems...well, like I said. Like marketing.

It would depend. All too often the minority card is played for controversy and as a gimmick. If the homosexuality was simply another dynamic of his personality then sure but if it's an ostentatious display, as is most likely, then no thanks.

Does it matter at all? Hell, I'd even play Gears of War if Marcus was having foursomes with Baird, Cole and Dom, as long as it didn't show anything and the game was still awesome. Homosexuality isn't a problem, it's simply a way of life, so why not play a game with a gay protagonist?

That said, it's interesting that although we've seen plenty of other media with gay protagonists (books, films, TV, even music, and so on), we've never seen a game so far with a gay protagonist. Japanese eroge doesn't count, by the way.

Doesn't matter what the main character is. For example, in most games, it wouldn't even matter. In games like Mass Effect, yeah slightly. But that's your own choice if you want them to be gay or not. In games like, say for example, GTA 4, it would have made a diffrence becasue you had sex in that game (albeit, you could only hear it but you get my point.
But to me, it wouldn't make any diffrence what the main character was.

JK, but srsly. Yes, I would play a game where the main Character was Gay. But it would have to be a game that I could enjoy, like all the games I play. I wouldn't treat it any differently than I would any other game... unless it was more or less fun.
Unless of course being gay was a facet of the gameplay... like you had to go around having sex with other men/women in pornographic scenes... but that's not going to happen.

Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Not if it was pornographic or boring.
