It would probably end up feeling like a poorly done game. Unless it's story was great, everyone would call it a bad game and move on.

It would be nice to play as the follower for a change. As long as we don't be as annoying as the adoring fan in Oblivion we should be fine.

Most every MMO out there ... you're supposed to be doing stuff .. that everyone else does.
And killing people .. that everyone else kills.
Where the endgame content is about doing stuff .. that you did last week.

All the while being ordered around while you do it.
