Nope... because I wouldn't believe that a button like that would do something like that...

Now, if it said "God's End-of-the-World Button", however...

I would like to push that button, but there is no chance that I will be able to do so, because of the hordes of other people trying to get there first.

No. The answer is no. I guess there's a possiblity it wouldn't do anything since you haven't specified that the button's label is consistent with what it would actually do. But I'm not doing something like that regardless. Seems horribly selfish.
Well said! no SMT fan would destroy the world if it didn't come with the opportunity to reincarnate it based on a vague kotowari. XD

but yeah, I wouldn't do it. pressing the button is a now-win situation for me. Either I press it and it does what it says, thus I've just killed billions and perhaps myself, or I press it and it does nothing, and now I look like a chump!

Well, there is absolutely zero chance that any button could end the entire world.

So based on that it's just an anonymous button with a joke message on it clearly designed to make people push it through reverse psychology.

I would probably assume that pressing the button would make something embarrassing happen to me (like having a bucket of worms dropped onto me) and would therefore not push it.

Wait... do I know that it's actually going to end the world, or did I just stumble across it at some random place?

If I know it's going to end the world: hell no!

If it's just a random button that I found without any prior knowledge, I'd probably push it out of sheer curiosity since there's no way some random button in a public place is actually going to allow you to end the world.

Barring any other information except the button being there? Nope. Change the context or add details of course and my opinion might change.

At the end of the day simple disbelief means I doubt the button would end the world, but at the same time I see no real reason to run around pushing buttons when I do not know what they do.

Possibly, just because I would want to know what it does. If you saw a button labelled "End of the world button, do not push" would you seriously believe it would actually destroy the world? I would probably just assume it to be some kind of joke, or even a social experiment.

If I actually did know it would destroy the world? No. I'm not some edgy teenage misanthrope who wants to look cool, so I have no reason to pretend I would actually do it.

Yeah I would definitely push the button. Why? Because it would be too tempting, I want to go down in history as the man who destroyed the world. Plus I want to see what the end of the world looks like.

Plus if I don't, someone else will.
What history? Who is going to record your deed? Where will said deed be recorded? And who will be left to read it?
Answers: No one, no where, and no one.

....What history?

I would not push it because suicide is retarded.

There has to be some aliens on some planet observing us and our progress as a species. And one afternoon on that planet, they will notice that there is a gap in our solar system. They will check the last of their video feed, see me press the button and sadly write in their file on Earth "some dick pressed the 'End of the World, do not press" button."

I'm happy to go down in their records as "some dick" as they obviously won't know my name.

...so there's no guarantee that it actually does that? It might just be a prank, where when you push the button a big red flag pops up and says "Gotcha! Gullible idiot!"

Ehhh... I dunno. What kind of end of the world are we talking about here? The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy type, where the planet is wiped from existence? The zombie apocalypse kind of end where society crumbles and nature starts reclaiming the planet? The kind where everything living on the planet dies and only a dust-ridden rock is left?

Let's go with the first one: no. What would be the point? I've got shit to do, I don't want the world to end.

I have always felt the desire to break the glass of fire alarms just because I am told not to do it. So yeah, I would definitely be tempted.

as they say... Curiosity killed the cat... XD

If I passed it for a fleeting moment, I'd probably ignore it, but if I was there alone for a while, I'd probably get curious, and want to know what it really does.

Which will either result in me pressing the button, or ripping the whole system apart and tracing the logic of what it is wired to and so on... XD

Stupid curiosity... XD

Oh HEEELLL no, you'd have to be insane to do it.

While I'm growing increasingly cynical about the world, destroying the whole thing would be completely stupid. I don't have the right to take everyone else's life away, including my own.

I wanna say I wouldn't, but I'm waaaaaaaaay too clumsy not to push it accidentally if I'm standing near it.
