I think you are confusing sentience (the ability to sense and feel things) with higher brain function.
If you were the dragon you would still retain your higher brain functions, if you owned the dragon it would be your loyal pet/companion
It can't really work that way.
Either dragons are creature of high intellectual capacity and sentience, and you could be one with no negative effects to your mind, or its 'sub-human,' which means you would no longer be yourself, and would in fact be less then.
If its the first, its immoral to own one. If its the second, then your'd be a moron to choose to destroy yourself.
