I know that's a bit morbid, but hear me out. I just watched the James and Mike Mondays episode over at the AVGN's site and they were playing Jaws Unleashed. It got to a part where they broke a bunch of piers that led to a small concrete "island" with a couple gas pumps on it, stranding two people on that island in the process. They then managed to blow up one of the fuel pumps, setting the people on fire, thus presenting the predicament in the title. I thought it was a pretty tough decision, as neither option sounds pleasant. So I felt like making a poll about it just for kicks!

So I ask you, my fellow Escapists, you've just been engulfed in flames and you're surrounded by water. You know that in that water is a massive, man-eating shark that set you on fire specifically to get you to jump into the water so it could eat you. You're thus given a choice on how you'd prefer to die: eaten alive by said shark, or continue burning to death?

Feel free to explain your rationale. :3

I guess I would go for jaws. Perhaps if the fire was more of a house fire situation where the smoke gets you before the flames do, but I'd take getting picked apart by a shark over having my skin on fire any day. Even if he slowly takes away my limbs I can't imagine that being worse than being on fire from head to toe.

I totally read the title as "Would You Rather Burn To Death or Be Eaten By Jews?" and I was going to say burned to death. But Jaws has the teeth and jaw structure to make it quick, unlike jews, so I'm going to go with him.

Burned to death.
Then eaten by Jaws.

Hey, he likes well cooked food too.

While burning to death I get eaten by jaws. Hopefully the water puts out the fire and the shark bites it.

Otherwise I'll at least have an interesting death.

Burning to death seems the less painful option. The fire will kill your nerves so after the first few seconds of burning alive you'll stop feeling it. Getting ripped limp from limp by a giant shark with very nasty serrated teeth seems like it would last longer.

Burning to death sounds like the worst way to go...but if I'm already on fire then I guess I'll stick with that and be jolly well thankful for what I've got!

BTW my favourite part of that vid was when Pat managed to get Jaws on the platform itself, that was funny.
I got a good laugh out of that bit too, he's just flopping around biting left and right, all I could hear was a pac-man sound. :p

Tough call. Once the flames seer your nerves shut you don't feel a thing. That said the part before that is pretty freakin painful!
Now onto the shark. Razor sharp teeth slicing through my tender flesh sounds painful. I guess it depends if he eats me from the legs up or head first.

I glanced at this thread title while scrolling and didn't read it properly so I initially read it as "would you rather burn to death or be eaten by Jews".
Touch call that one.

OT: Probably Jaws, you have a very very slim chance of being able to hurt the damn thing at least.

Edit: LOL not the only one then.

Both are pretty bad to think about. :/ I would go with burning since the idea of being eaten alive sounds dreadful. Having the last few moments of your life involving being chewed and ripped apart by big teeth makes my skin crawl.

I figure I can make it easier for Jaws by putting my head in his mouth first, so he can chomp down on my face and hopefully kill me instantly, cause so much shock I can't feel a thing, or knock me out. With burning, it's guaranteed to be a very slow death.

I'll take the death by magic fantasy shark. It would almost certainly be quicker and less painful than burning (not to mention infinitely more awesome), and at least then my body will get to go towards the survival of another living creature instead of just becoming a sad, useless pile of ash and charred bone.

If you know-who's-death death scene in Deep Blue Sea is anything to go by, getting eaten by a shark seems like an insta-kill.
Also, I've always wondered where does Jaws get his name? I know the movie's called Jaws but nobody ever calls it that. Is it a fan nickname or something from the sequels?

I suspects it's sort of a play on words referencing 'jaws of death' or somesuch. I guess they rejected "Big Scary Fish" as a title.

OT: I guess you only get to die once in life so it makes sense to me to make it as long and intense as possible so you get the most out of it so I'm going to go with burned alive.

If I get eaten by a huge shark there's always a chance the teeth will hit something vital, killing me instantly, where as burning alive might take a lot longer.

Difficult one. I'm no expert on human immolation, but I'd say your nerves get burned away pretty quickly (even though the part before that will be agony), plus smoke in your lungs and lack of oxygen might make it all go a lot quicker.

A shark might go for the bits that stick out first, arms and legs, which seems pretty damn painful to me. Then again, underwater you'll be drowning at the same time...

I think I'll go for burning, as I just don't like the idea of bits of me in a shark...

As uninformed a decision this is, I'd say burning: Depending on how your were being eaten by the shark, you could lose the lower half of your body before you die (looking at quints death, you here his body snap twice before he dies). Also, i'd have to bring in the fear factor: Both would be utterly terrifying, but i think being actively torn apart by a shark is slightly less scary than burning.
