No. I would replace it with the PS2 controller with no six-axis controls and no two marshmellow shoulder buttons

I've always preferred the layout, weight and size of the PS3 controller, so no

Does anyone else tend to associate the controller they use with certain games? I'd find it strange to use a xbox one for Ratchet n Clank or Gran Turismo, but then, I'd find it weird to use a PS2 one to play Halo.

Having only recently purchased a PS3, I find myself wildly annoyed at the controller. To be fair, I've never really liked the Play Station style of controller - the analog sticks are too spongy and close together, the buttons (especially the shoulder buttons) inconviently located and the whole assembly is just a bit too small. Having thus far only played Killzone 2, I've found that my my only sustainable gripes about the game lie in the fact that I simply do not care for the controller.

That said, according to the internet it is entirely possible to force the PS3 to accept a wired Xbox 360 controller. While it may be heresy to suggest, it seems as though this would provide the best solution to my problem as I adore the Xbox controller. Having never tested the concept myself, I have no idea just how well it would work, and knowing that the at least some PS3 games make use of the motion sensing capabilities of the PS3 controller makes me wonder if it's really even possible to make it happen.

But assuming that somehow, it magically worked correctly, the question to the PS3 owners is simply this: would you use a 360 controller on the PS3 given the chance?
I have to disagree. I love the Playstation controller, hell I have since I have my original PS. I've even bought a USB Playstaion-clone contollers so I could play emulated games on my PC. But the Xbox360 controllers is really annoying. The D-pad sucks and is put in the wrong place, it is very uncomfortable to rest your fingers on both the bumpers and the triggers. Maybe the problem is that you have only used an Xbox controller and a PS controllers? I've never gotten a cramp for a PS controllers, but I have many times from my GBA and NES. I don't have giant hands, so I don't need a oversided controller that looks like Microsfot couldn't decied if they wanted to rip off Sony's controller or Nintendo 64's controller, and couldn't agree so they came to compromise. Plus the PS controller is good for me, because I smoke, and I can't hold that clumsy Xbox controller and smoke a cigarrete at the same time. The only thing that an Xbox360 controller looks good for is a boomerang.
I usually rest my pointer on the trigger, so that's not a problem for me. If the PS3 controller is as small as these people say it is, then I wouldn't be able to use it at all, because I have very large hands. I'm also not one to pay $400 for a game console without Wi-Fi, and I'm certainly not paying $600 for the one that does. So I'm definitely going with the Xbox 360 controller.
The PS3 has built in Bluetooth wireless, a rechargeable battery which you connect to the PS3 via a USB. It's roughly the same size as your PS2 controllers, maybe a bit smaller.

Probably, since I play mostly FPS games, and the 360's is mostly built for FPS play. I think what would be best would be a hybrid of the two. Take the ability to recharge, the accelerometer, the DPad, and, maybe the upper shoulder buttons (L1 and R1) with the 360's thumbsticks, layout, triggers, and face buttons.

Aren't the Dualshock and the 360 controller practically the same? The button layout is virtually identical. The only difference is that the 360 controller is a little bigger, and therefore slightly more comfortable(For me at least, I've got big hands). The Dualshock has a vastly superior D-pad, but the 360 has a slightly more comfortable analog stick layout. I'd like to see a combination of the two to made into one controller really.

I'm actually thinking of paying someone to make me a controller that pretty much merges the aspects of the DS3 and the 360 controller into one thing that is fully programmable. Sigh if only I had money coming in I think I could convince some people on SRK to create such a thing for me.

NO!

In spite of this ridiculous little trend that people have started, the xbox controller is not nearly as good as the sixaxis. The only explaination I can think of for this would be single system gamers who have only owned an xbox and/or a 360 finally buying a PS3, then bitching about the controller. I own both systems, the PS3 controller is better in most situations. Some of my friends/my GF prefer the xbox controller when playing FPS's, which I cant stand.

And since someone brought it up, the AA batteries kinda suck in my opinion. What modern generation piece of electronics still runs on duracell? Nothing. It looks and feels cheap, and if you are all that worried about your controller dying (which never happens to me, even in 14 hour gaming sessions) just get an extra controller, leave it plugged in, and swap out. Its much easier then finding new batteries.
so spending money for another controller > buying batteries...... NO!
Quite to the contrary, unless you are complete and total shut in, you will ALREADY own more then one controller. So, YES! it is...

Well let's see, which one has the vibrator function, a function that has existed as standard in videogames since 1997?

awesome, instead of answering you tried to call me a lonely loser!!!

I share and play my xbox with 5 other people, we have 5 controllers.

All I am saying is that changing batteries, or what we do is charge xbox 360 battery packs with this neat tool called the play and charge where we can play and charge the batt at the same time, is a lot more convinient than buying another controller. in fact, it is better than what you are suggesting.

Its actually funny how the xbox people cant use the PS3 joysticks since they are more soft than theirs. It really depends what your playing but each control has their benefits. I perfer the touch of the ps3 face buttons but I perfer the colours on the 360 buttons than square circle triangle and cross.

One thing that bugs me especially with my PS3 (maybe becuase its japanese) is that the select button changes depending what game your playing or hwat region. Like japanese games and such use circle and others sometimes use another button.

Yes, but I feel no need for a cutting remark or sarcastic aside. I just prefer the 360 controller, even after having been a PS1 and PS2 player for years before deciding the 360 had more games that I wanted than the PS3. I'd equally replace the PS3 controller with the PS2 controller for the sake of losing the bizarre squishy shoulder buttons.

Playstation controllers are a little awkward for me to use for shooters, and I've gotten really used to the 360's set up of having the sticks further appart. Plus, the new triggers are really stubby and they feel a little tacked-on. The controller is also a little too small, but I suppose if I used it for longer I'd get used to it again.

That said, the D-pad is awful for the 360 controller. I have to use the analogue sticks for all the arcade games I have, and that's not the best set-up to have.
