Depends on how aggressive they are.. and maybe a wee bit on what they are protesting about, and related to how I feel about being a riot policemen. If it's armed neo-nazis wanting to kick out 90% of the country to live like kings, then I'd sneak some live ammunition in. If they happen to be fairly peaceful protesters hen I'd have to question the motives of the police officer in charge. It's not likely to happen as police officers with power generally don't abuse (some do, but not that many).

I wouldn't shoot someone period. Life and death situation, different story, but I don't find any joy in hurting other people, especially not for their beliefs. Even though I really don't care for protesters in general, they've got the right to do so. Besides, non-violent protest is really good so long as moronic picket signs are not involved, like the ones that say "PROTECT AMERICA FROM TERERISTS".

Those damn hippies need to get out of the road, some people have jobs to get to. Protest in the grass, douchebags. More on topic, I'd shoot rubber bullets at hippies at the drop of a hat.

Hm. Don't show this thread to anyone who thinks gaming makes you violent, i don't exactly think it would convince them otherwise.

Nah, I'd shoot a few rounds in the air, to scare them into listening, then talk them down.

Failing that, out comes the tear gas.

you can protest peacefully on the sidewalk, public property the streets however this can cause problems for emergency vehicles. You also cant trespass when protesting.

Well then you can arrest/fine them for jaywalking or trespassing, but i don't think it goes straight to the shooting and tear gas...or should a be more wary of that?

Absolutely not. I'd toss the tear gas, maybe, but unless they're turning violent, violence in return is just unwarranted.

On the assumption that they escalated as per the rules of engagement and I was ordered to fire tear gas into them, yes I would.

That is if there is a rules of engagement on the subject or these said 'hippies' are a threat to people or property.

Yes, I would, because they have violated their right to a peaceful organization. If they are obstructing the normal and safe flow of traffic or infringing on the public well-being, or threatening private property, or the health and safety of the officers, then the protesters need to be controlled.
This is a preventative step to keep the protesters from turning into a full-blown riot. Most municipalities have designated areas where protesters can demonstrate. Usually at a city or county seat. This allows for officers to control the safety of the protesters and the general public, while maintaining the welfare of the municipality and private property.

No, or at least not without an explanation.

Chains of command are meant to be questioned on items of morality. Not to mention if they're not really hurting anyone, and if things can be deferred.
Things can always be solved non-violently.

Plus the possible loss of my job over it

If I became a police officer I would be prepared to do that.

So yes, I would shoot, considering that its my job and everything...

Nope.
Returning violence has a good chance of scaling it upward, unless you take extreme measures immediately but that tends to make a population hate the government's and police forces guts.
Plus keeping a large scale force of riot cops from not just pelting everyone in the general area is quite hard to do.
Someone I knew was arrested during the Vancouver 2010 olympics, this person has no violent record at all and my best guess is they were probably either getting out of there or helping someone who was just battered to get out of there.

I'd do it cause I was ordered to, but if they were Douche bags like the Westburrow baptist Church then it's likely that I'd probably enjoy it a bit too much.

Hell no. Of course, I would probably be among the protesters to begin with, not on the other side. The rights of the working people need to be defended.

Rubber bullets and tear gas are no problem. I thought from the title you meant real bullets which would be a completely different story.
