No, it can be a useful tool, and it can be good fun on occasion.

"Yes"

I have no use for Facebook. I have no desire for Facebook. I have no reason to go to or use Facebook, and I want people to leave me alone about it. Of all the fads and memes and things to live with in the world, that's one that I choose to exclude from my life. There is nothing at stake for me if I destroy it at all, no consequences to speak of. In fact, I would ultimately enjoy it. And would anything change? Not a thing, because they'll all go over to Twitter or another Facebook clone. There's like a million of them.

I clicked no.

I love Facebook. It let's me keep in touch with family and friends on a daily basis without having to call them. Not that calling them is bad, but when you have family spread across the country and busy schedules, lining up a phone call can actually be difficult. Seeing it all on Facebook means I can see what they're up to at a time that fits my schedule, and they can respond to my comments when it fits theirs. Not to mention the time involved. If I spent 10 mins on the phone with the people I connect with regularly on Facebook, I'd spend a good 2 hours a day catching up with them. I don't have time for that. Spending 15 mins on Facebook works much better.

It's also a great way to see and share pictures. Instead of having to email massive amounts of photos and videos to everyone I know, I can just put them on Facebook and direct my friends there.

It provides a great networking tool as well. You can post that you're seeking people for some project, and get responses from your contacts who are interested. Sending out massive emails instead is (a) cumbersome, (b) increases the likelihood that you'll miss someone.

I'd pick "No" because FB brought me only good things (maybe because I'm very selective of the contacts I add to my friends list).

Hell, I even had a free game, met some interesting people thru it and even going meet my second most favorite game creator team in a few monthes thanks to FB, so I really can't complain :)

life-changing decision?
If it is a life changing decision then fuck you all. Really if people loosing facebook is life changing then said people truly are just a bunch scum sucking idiots.
Wow, you truly are being an asshole here. All because some people like to use a website more than you do, doesn't make them "scum sucking idiots". You're a gamer, I don't go around calling you a dateless, sexless, possibly-murderous neckbeard.

Would depend on my mood at the time, I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with facebook, at times its been a great social tool, at others I've wanted nothing more than to see the end of it.

I've seen relationships bloom from it, but I've also seen them crumble (probably not entierly because of facebook but given the circumstances of this break up, its not hard to see some relation there). Seen old friends re-united but at the same time jerks you were glad to see the back of find you again! I dunno I could go on for hours but I wont.

Point is it would depend on my view of it at the time, disregarding the "is this a joke?" or clicking yes out of pure curiousity, because that would be very very tempting.

What would be better is a filtering process, to help remove spam bots, and remind people they dont have 300+ friends from around the world. Yes I'm cynical about that stuff. Facebook has always been for me just a way to contact close friends and family so never got the games, the adds, the people for whom they truely beleive they have all these friends and for them the website is, within reason, becoming too big a part of thier lives.

How would I do this, hell I don't know, maybe give everyone when requesting friendship a question about your life, one only close friends and family would know, if they can't answer that, no friendship invite.

Still to answer the poll, would depend on my outlook to facebook at the time (given I believed the popup), cynical day, I'd go with yes in a heartbeat, less cynical day, I'd go with no or ignore the thing.

Although as I said earlier, part of my mind would be tempted just out of pure curiosity, even more if it then gives me a window of hidden cameras in everyones houses as the realisation dawns. Now theres good reality TV!

No, because I fear if I were to press yes a great darkness would fall upon the earth...

I don't think I would, but if there was a way to criminally charge the current ownership with negligence towards members private information (Seriously, Facebook does not believe any part of your life is allowed to be private if you sign up. They're actually worse than Google.), I think I'd go with that one.

Well I use it, so no.
Even if I didn't use it, I'm not a massive douche who needs to fill an empty void in their life by making other people miserable.
I'd say the same about something like a Justin Bieber forum too.

I feel the majority of the people who are answering 'yes' are the type of awkward social outcasts who don't get any utility out of Facebook.

No wonder the vote is so close on a site like The Escapist.

I said no, but in reality I would just force close the window. Your post states that you aren't sure it is real or not. What if the creator linked the options backwards so that voting 'NO' shuts down Facebook and voting 'YES' keeps it alive.

Personally I detest Facebook and how it is used and abused. But it is not my place in the world to tell others not to use it. If it doesn't harm me, I can live with its existence.

Do you seriously blame FACEBOOK for cyber-bullying? NOT the bullies themselves?
