Back to the future, singularity, and the messed up timelines of the legend of zelda series have taught me not to mess with time, so as soon as he appears, I'd simply smack him round the face with a shovel, push him back into the portal, and take the money. Maybe it will have bad consequences, but surely, better than managing to mess up family history and ending up snogging my own mum at her prom...

I don't think it would be as simple as that...what if future you was telling you not to take it BECAUSE you were too careful with your money, and screwed yourself over somehow? o=
Could quite easily just ask future self what not to do with it?

But the idea was that futute self didn't have time, or simply didn't tell you, what not to do with it :p
But then future me is just appearing and saying "don't take the money or people will come to harm" the disappearing. I would still likely take it thinking it was a hallucination or my imagination or just not believe him for not backing it up.

because no matter what you do the future you already knows what gonna happen. if you try to avoid it, the outcome will still be the same. because future you already knows whats gonna happen

Well, that's a paradox waiting to happen. I mean, let's look at the facts. I will, apparently, make a time machine in the future. And I just won millions of dollars. Let's assume that these facts are not unrelated and that I used the money to make the time machine.

Therefore, if I listen to him and don't take the money, I won't be able to build a time machine, and thus, I won't be able to go back to warn myself not to take the money, thus, I would take it.

What I would do instead is use my futue-self's insight to build the time machine faster and use it to go into the future and see what horrible tragedy befalls me. With infinite control over time, I would eventually find a way to stop it, but it would only be possible if I took the money.

So, to answer your question: Yes. I would.

The real question for me is "Why the hell is my future self telling me to not do something?" 'cause that seems like it musta been a helluva rollercoaster to apparently ruin everyone's life
