As the title suggests, this is a hypothetical situation here.

Lets say you were offered the chance to time travel, only once, and only to the beginning of World War 2, to kill Hitler. After the job was done, you would snap back to your own time, although it would be altered due to your actions. Would you take this opportunity? (and before anyone tries to get cute, if you refuse to kill Hitler when you time travel, you automatically go back to your own time, and receive a kick to the balls for wasting everyone's time)

Remember, time travel is a VERY complicated business. Killing Hitler would have DRASTIC effects on the future, in ways you couldn't possibly know.

Perhaps without Hitler, another tyrant would assume power, and do things even WORSE than Hitler. Maybe taking Hitler out would completely avert the war. Maybe without Hitler... you do not exist. Do you take the chance to save countless lives, without knowing the potential consequences?

Probably not. War is a terrible thing, but it also stimulates technological progress. Who knows, if WW2 had never happened, our technology may be something on par with the 50-70's.

If the allies and Soviets never teamed up against Hitler, the cold war may have gone over the already very close line of nuclear war.
Can't take the risk of EVERYONE dying to potentially save a smaller number, despite that number being very large.
And if it was the actual beginning of world war 2 the war probably would still have happened.

No, I wouldn't. The time-line would be horribly fucked up, and while this world is screwed up I'd choose it over an unknown future.

Honestly, no. If Hitler died, someone else would take his place, and those mistakes that Hitler made might of never happened, and Nazi Germany could have won.

Bollocks. I read the post title, voted yes, saw I was the only one to do so, read the rest of the OP and felt stupid.
I repent!

That has got to be the single worst reason ever to allow a war and genocide to happen.

No. Even if I could, the fact he was not means I did not.

Predestination paradoxes are fun.

Apart from that, if Hitler was not rallied in by the Nazi party, someone else would have been.

I would do it. 1: To stop genocide, and 2: Because I hope it would create a world that is much less screwed up.

Hell no, if I could time travel I'd do something that fucks shit up way more. Like killing Brutus, Jesus or Pythagorus.

And yes, everyone who shaped modern history's name ends with "us." But really, think about it. I bet things would be way different with a totally new dominant religion or if Caesar had lived.

I can't believe I'm the first person to say yes! As Stoic raptor states, the war would probably still happen, however I couldn't live with the guilt of knowing that I could have stopped the slaughter of all those innocent Jews and would probably take the oppertunity regardless of the consequences.

However an interesting point; if there was no war it would be likely that I would never be born.

No. I wouldn't. At least the war came out good in the end. maybe another tyrant could come up and we would lose. I'd be more comfortable letting time take it's course.

Besides, maybe it's a fixed event. I could make 2/3 of the universe explode for all I know.

There's no way of knowing for sure how that would effect history. You could easily end up making things worse.

So, no. I wouldn't.

killing hitler wouldnt solve anything. someone else would come to power and probably be worse than hitler and actually win the war.

if anyone was able to invent a time machine i would stongly suggest they dont change the past. we dont know what the consequences would be of even a simple change.

For purely selfish reasons, bragging rights, and fun... yes. Screw the consequences, I wanna kill Hitler. With a sword.

No, because you can't time travel backwards.
IF you were to go back in time, the effect (you) would happen before the cause (your birth), therefore creating a break in the flow of the universe and condemning us to some sort of horrible death.
If you COULD, still no.
Let history take its course.
