As the title suggests, this is a hypothetical situation here.

Lets say you were offered the chance to time travel, only once, and only to the beginning of World War 2, to kill Hitler. After the job was done, you would snap back to your own time, although it would be altered due to your actions. Would you take this opportunity? (and before anyone tries to get cute, if you refuse to kill Hitler when you time travel, you automatically go back to your own time, and receive a kick to the balls for wasting everyone's time)

Remember, time travel is a VERY complicated business. Killing Hitler would have DRASTIC effects on the future, in ways you couldn't possibly know.

Perhaps without Hitler, another tyrant would assume power, and do things even WORSE than Hitler. Maybe taking Hitler out would completely avert the war. Maybe without Hitler... you do not exist. Do you take the chance to save countless lives, without knowing the potential consequences?
No because morally there is no reason to kill another bottom line. Please just read Singer or Kant for those details, I don't want to put on my philosophy cap and write 5000 words on the subject. Would I go back and persuade him to pursue that art major so he wouldn't have joined the fascist regime, absolutely yes.

First, it's absolutely adorable how most people think they could just kill Hitler. You know, just waltz into Berlin, into his personal chambers pop one in his head and walk back out. Like nobody else ever tried it back then. Like nobody wildly more competent and better equipped than all of you... Like... the armed forces of the rest of the world...

That aside, you can't even begin to understand what you'd be doing. Most people haven't the faintest clue of how this world works, of the repercussions that ANYTHING has, let alone something this massive would cause. You know, just change one of the most significant moments in recent human history and suddenly everything will be perfect!

Don't fuck with time. Without Hitler who caused WWII, many of today's pop culture and lifestyles will not exist. If it was Hitler as his height of power, when everyone knew who he was and hated him, when allied soldiers have fought the Nazis then i would consider. Anyway, without hitler there wouldn't be Wolfenstein and thus, no modern FPSs

Letting Hitler live is the lesser of two evils, why? Because by killing Hitler history is changed dramaticaly, this will mean that either i wont be born or have the chance or the desire or a reason to go back and kill hitler which inturn makes the universe explode. Or is it implode?

No for the simple reason that Hitler, like every other Historical figure good and bad, is necessary to our Time-line.

I wouldn't for the same reason I wouldn't stop the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Because without it, there would be no Godzilla, and it would have effectively killed Japanese culture. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if there was no NGE.

There is much artwork inspired by the ultimate evil of Hitler, and they are masterpieces. I mean imagine a world without Inglorious Bastards. *shudder*

when you think about it most people might say no because a lot of people where born because the post-war world so killing Hitler would be indirectly wiping a lot of the world's future population

If I was entirely unhappy with my life I would have voted yes. Although if I was living in those times I would have if I ever had the chance.

Besides, Temporal Causality suggests that if and when time travel becomes a reality It is entirely possible that one in the future, believing themselves to be right, goes back in time to try and assassinate Hitler before he gains power, fails, and creates the man he set out to destroy. Or this individual outright replaces Hitler to maintain the time-line. Assuming Time travel is a scientific reality it is entirely possible that the Hitler we know of is not the real person, but an agent maintaining temporal cohesion.

why not go back and kill Lenin?[/quote]

given the subject of this thread I feel it necessary to point out that it may be entirely possible.

Fuck the present, I'd kill him. He deserved to die, and I highly doubt that the impending "power vacuum" people keep going on about would be filled by anyone crazier then Hitler himself. Seriously, Hitler was an insane, sadistic, anti-semite. Worse, he was an excellent public speaker. If he'd been killed before taking power then millions of deaths could have been averted.
