I think its funny how much blood we allow in games that are T, but as soon as one nipple is shown, its "OMGOMG NUDUTY M RATING PROTECT THE CHILDREN". Doesn't one think that all the blood might not be good for a child's psyche, but a little nudity won't hurt anyone?
Precisely. When sex is more harmfull to children than slicing people with chainsaws something has gone terribly bad in the world. I blame religion! :p

There is an option on Alien Hominid HD to turn off the blood and it replaces all the blood with flowers. I don't see any other reason you'd actually want to turn off the blood, it makes very little difference but with the blood it is just slightly cooler.

Back in the days of UT2K4 I occasionally turned on the "Reduced Gore" or "No Gore" options while playing. I mainly did that while playing with "instagib" weapons and that type of thing, mainly because it's actually more amusing to see a ragdoll do a slight flip in the air before hitting the ground after taking a killing blow instead of simply seeing it explode in a red cloud of visceral... something...

I think there should be a several-point scale- "none" (like Gears of War, where it all becomes sparks or something), "some" (i.e., just blood, maybe on a Halo-ish level), "all/lots" (i.e. shit tons of blood, guts, all that) and maybe a "too much" (everyone/thing bleeds ludicrous amounts, and if they so much as trip they just explode in a bloody shower of organs. Would be more humorous than gory, I think).

I don't like the "all or none" mindset, but personally, I'm not phased at all by gore in video games, unless it's...squicky. Which doesn't really happen.

The poll makes absolutely no sense, and as for little jimmy...he shouldnt even be playing the game in the first place, so asking how he should play it is stupid, that's like asking how a drunk teenager should drive a car, it shouldnt happen in the first place.

But on the name of the thread:

Yes, i turn it off, i have no problem with gore (i enjoy gore movies such as Cannibal Holocaust etc..), but its just to unrealistic in games, for example: God of War 3, although it looks to be a fun game, the amount of unrealistic blood they used kinda turned me off it, i mean a normal human being does not have like 10 gallons of blood, it makes no freaking sense and is just annoying to watch, but then again i guess that game is created more for the immature audience.

I really don't see the problem with having the option. I just wonder how the devs feel about it. This is thier vision and they have to offer the option to censor themselves seems kinda wrong. I can understand it more in a T rated game but the Gears 2 sparkles thing kinda threw me off. You are cutting monsters in half with a chainsaw gun but you are worried about a bit of blood? Seems kinda messed all around there.

I like it when games give you the option to turn off the blood, especially when there's gratuitous blood otherwise.

I like blood, it gives the combat weight, Especially in Prototype, you feel like a badass superhuman when you see the fields of corpses and blood stains you leave behind.

I like Resistance 2 just as much as LittleBigPlanet. For me it's not about the blood and gore, it's about how fun the game is. With all the 'realistic' and 'violent' games that have flooded the market recently, LBP has showed me that fun shall overcome.

More from the viewpoint of some people just handle it better. No, little Jimmy shouldn't play it 99% of the time. But if Jimmy/Timmy's parents think that with a little censoring it'd be ok, then there should be the option. It also depends on the moral content of the game. Grand Theft Auto=no to little person. Pick a shooter with redeeming values (like realism, to show what it is really like) and it becomes much more acceptable, even with the blood on.

Disclaimer: Grand Theft Auto is fun. Don't hurt me.

It'd also be nice to have the option to turn off foul language, as that is usually unnecessary.

Meh, quite frankly I don't care if a game has blood or not. I'm fine with it, so long as it doesn't mess up the visibility, but games can still be fun without it.

Nope.

If its a gory game and you KNOW its gory and you dont like blood then DONT BUY THE GAME! I mean it's common sense, I mean sure okay the option to turn off or limit the blood on screen is a nice bonus in a game I mena in the house of the dead series you could even make the blood green, but for me the more blood the better XD.

I'm pretty tired of unrealistically gory games. I'm fine with blood, violece, dismemberment, the whole lot, just in moderation and not thrown in my face. It just seems kinda stupid and sophmoric to be throwing extraneous amounts of gore around when it's unnecessary, like a child blowing his nose on people to try and act like a "big boy". Too many younger gamers associate blood, guts and gore with maturity, but blood and gore for blood and gore's sake is just childish.

Mostly I'm indifferent to it. If I could turn if off, I probably couldn't be bothered going into the menu's and turning if off, unless it was auto-off then I probaably couldn't be bothered turning it on either.

Games that use exessive blood and violence kinda seem to me like they're trying to prove a point. Yes, you're a very grown up game, good on you. Same with games that like to use alot of swearing and sex. That's right you're not for little kids and adults can play, you must be so proud.

Eh. Whatever. No need to be too over the top, but no blood is actually a bit creepy. Like in Terminator Salvation (first thing that came to my head seeing as I saw it recently), there was little-no blood in it and it made me feel sick because I was expecting something that never ever came. But how much I hated that movie is off topic.
