all in all, dont do it. i have 7, yes 7 characters with epic flying mounts in lvl 80. it doesnt take very long.
Its people like you who make me feel incompetent at MMOs... ;-;
Seriously, though, that is pretty epic, and I would high-five you in person.

Don't buy gold, with mounts getting extra cheap what do you need gold for even? Now that you get achievements for completing quests you might as well backtrack to get all of them, that is a pile of gold right there. Or you can take up mining/skinning/herbing and sell to the doofuses who do buy gold and inflate the price of everything on the AH.

I wouldn't play WoW until Cataclysm comes out anyway. According to the notes the gameplay is going to change entirely.
Just out of curiosity, have you seen anything about limits on those free trials? I wasn't much for the game when I first tried it, but with Cat. coming out, and my having a more competent machine now, I'm interested in giving it another try.

I would never buy gold, nor would I condone it. I want to personally reach through the computer and strangle every gold farmer I see in game.

Buying gold just encourages the gold spamming ass rammers to keep doing it, so if everyone stopped buying they would stop selling.

No, just no...

Do you honestly want to throw away real money for a virtual gold? Also, there are other methods of getting epic flying mounts besides buying them. At the very least, there are some to be had through achievements...
but, those achievements are generally the "clear entire raid instance with all bosses on hard mode" achievements. they take:

1. a really good raiding guild.
2. top notch gear.
3. raid guilds want to look your achievements through before they can see your a good raider.
4. its really fucking hard.
The 10 man ones are a joke...Also, there are other ones you can get that aren't necessarily 310% speed from non-raid achievements.
theres someone here who obviously dont know that 10man is alot harder than 25 man. 25man is a joke, as i have pugged naxx25 succesfully many times. 25 is cake, because you have alot more people, more tanks, etc.

if you look at it, only a average fraction under 0.01% per server who has the Sartharion 10man Drake Mount, while tons have the 25man Drake Mount.

WoW has made it so easy to farm your own gold, it doesn't seem logical to BUY any gold, especially from a gold farmer.

Don't buy it. It's against the EULA, for one, and it's dishonest. Gold buying is the best argument I can make against WoW: people aren't playing for the fun, or the enjoyment of the experience. They just want to get better, look shiny and have the top gear.
Yeah, but what if you want the gold, to have better stuff, so you can do more fun stuff?
The whole point of an RPG* should be that getting gold and itemss is a by-product of having fun doing quests, dungeons, etc.

You know, as far as buying gold goes, using it to spend on Blizzard's in game gold sinks like the Traveller's Tundra Mammoth or Epic Flying are probably the least damaging.

However, buying gold means that gold buyers get funds which perpetuates the business which does have an effect on in game economy.

At level 80, 5000g can be ground out in less than a week if you play your cards right - especially so if you've still got leftover Northrend quests as many, many people do. Buying gold is a dick move man. A dick move. If you ever played on Aggramar EU I'd be forced to badmouth you constantly.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with everyone else in the thread. Buying gold is a waste of money, especially if you can earn it in different ways. Also, I don't know too much about the legality, but from what everyone else has said, it sounds pretty dodgy to me.

*headdesk*
And you have obviously never seen any raids outside of a Naxx25 pug.

OT:
*headdeskagain*
Buy up as many of the cheap, ground mounts as you can and get the 50 mounts achievement if you want an epic flyer...

I've recently got back into WoW, (waits for scolding), but I quite like the game (bar the grinds), which is why I thought about buying some WoW gold, not loads, but about 5000g (well kinda loads) for my mount. But I was wondering what the Escapists general opinion on buying gold was.

I wasn't sure if this was breaking any forum rules, but I couldn't see any rules against it. But I'm not sure if people will feel outright comfortable with (and if you aren't I ask you to PM me instead, as I would like as many peoples opinions as possible) the next bit, which is were I ask you, if any of you have, and if so were from. Because I'm quite suspicious about most WoW selling sites, and so would prefer to have one recommended (an EU one).

But Mods, if this is breaking the rules (which I'm still not sure if it is) feel free to lock it (after all it is part of your job).
Don't buy your mount.

Buy my lvl 70 shaman instead. He has it.

I'm picking up conflicting messages.

Now about gold buying, it seems a bit silly to buy fake money for real money especially since it's a lot easier to make WoW money then real money.
