If I were to be complaining about anything, it'd be how any random 10 year old can start playing and get top tier raiding loot with little to no effort.

I stopped playing because the game stopped being fun. It stopped being fun when became too easy. The casual gamer has no place in an MMO.

More content is bad? Are you insane?
WOTLK made me stop playing... so more content isn't always good. and the one thing i've been giving wow is the story... but now when every letter in the whole series of novel which warcraft comes from been put into WoW, it's just bad. I mean Nefarian resurrected... heroic deadmines...
Wait what!? Nefarian doesnt get ressurected? where the fuck did u hear that :O And well Heroic deadmines is due to the fact that its a popular dungeon which players wont mind playing at high level if there is a challenge and some lewt;D
You see that big dragon in cataclysm... all I've heard is that it's Nefarian being resurrected
Uhm. No.

Deathwing is the corrupted Neltharion, the Earth Warder, one of the five Dragon Aspects. Nefarion was his progeny. And Deathwing is not so much being resurrected as it wasn't ever certain that he was really killed. Of course, he wasn't...

Voted nope.

I enjoy WoW, but I haven't been excited to play it (let alone level) since Pre-TBC. With the remaking of, basically all of the old zones with a world event I'm stoked to play through the game again (leveling in the old content always sucked).

Plus, with their use of phasing in WoTLK I'm really excited to see how they've refined it even further for Cataclysm.

So yeah, I think the game is a juggernaut for a reason.

I don't think anyone knows the whooooole story to the WoW lore, i mean a large deal of it is explained on Warcraft 1-3.

But who cares if the previous stuff gets muddled up or forgotten? Thats history as it is.
blizzard have a clever way of changing WoW without limiting certain members from the earlier content.

WOW2? What, and have everyone re-start their characters? That's as good a way as any to throw away your market domination.
Yeah, because nobody has multiple characters. Not like I had Five characters on Shattered Hand and four on Shattered Halls and three on another one.
Multiple characters? Isn't spending hundreds of hours on ONE character enough?

I don't play any of those online things. Well that's not entirely true, I played about 2 hours of EVE and 8-9 hours of Mech Quest and then I got bored and did something useful.
Djeez, I would be bored out of my skull if I had to stick to one character. (Back when I played, anyways.) I prefer to go all the way and try out everything. Though I did spend a lot of time on my main, trying to get tweaked to perfection. But, since everyone online is either lazy or an ass, I pretty much had to give up because I don't like doing the same dungeon twenty times just to get one piece of armor.

While it would be extremely overwhelming for me (for example) to just start playing WoW, I don't really have an issue with its continuation; it's enjoyed my so many, and I'm not so sure that its players would be too pleased to have to start over.

Well Blizzard makes around £25 a second on subscriptions alone so they can really do what they want.

And I'd say yes to an extent. This is why I quit playing it since they are making every zone in the world (even the low level ones) into areas where level 80+ stuff will be happening. Also with every expansion about three quarters of the features added last time become irrelevant.
That's just... Wrong. They're not making every zone 80+, they're not even adding in level 80+ stuff to the zones (unless you count archaeology for some bizarre reason...). They're revamping the zones to move the storyline on to past Wrath of the Lich King.

Also, what features of the Burning Crusade have become irrelevant with the release of Wrath of the Lich King? I can still play a Draenei or Blood Elf, Jewelcrafting is still a massive part of the end game, Outland is still necessary for anyone wanting to level, and I've had people ask me how I got my "of the Shattered Sun" title because it's so cool.
Didn't they say they were adapting the lower level areas to hold higher level content? And pretty much ever level 70 instance or outland raid since I'm guessing you can get better gear by just doing standard quests in Northrend, much like when TBC came out?

As I said I quit the game which was like 2 years ago so I'm not really up to date and following it besides the occassional escapist forum or video link I see

It's not that they're adding another expansion that makes me think they're going too far. They're taking the game and pretty much making it something completely new. Even the skill trees and stuff are changing. And forget about the lore.

I never follow the stories in MMO's, they're fucking weak. The whole "you're the one" thing doesn't work when there are millions of other people playing. I skipped the cutscenes, never read the quest logs and ignored the lore.

I like what this new expansion is doing. I like the original islands of WoW, and I'm glad to see they're adding more places to go and altering current regions. It'll be interesting to see what they change, I'm tempted to renew my account, but I'm kinda scared that they'll just nerf the fuck out of the Rogue.

I'm pretty sure they're trying to "tone everything down" to increase appeal to new players. so I'm not sure how much nerfing that entails.

They need to make money. If cataclysm makes them money, then thats what WoW fans (or at least most of them) want. If they are giving the fans what they want, then they are doing their job. So no, they havent gone 'too far' till they dont make a profit.

I suppose you're right. I know my friends don't add up to much in Blizz's profit, but after they heard about cataclysm they all left.

The player base is growing. The people playing are looking for more content. Blizz wants more money. I don't see any problem with an expansion at all. I play and love the game. Im hoping for the expansion and cannot wait.
The lore of course is large and complicated but it is not at all required to play the game. If you like lore though, this is a game that has the most interesting stories of any game ive played.
I don't see any reason to not make an expansion since it would just piss off 12 million people.

Blizzard produces not only games but franchises. They have several other products related to Warcraft Universe. Books, comics, figures, merchandise, trading card games, board games and probably more that i'm not aware of.

Oops, i went a bit off topic there... anyway, my point is that as long as people pay for it, they will have it. I still have my Diablo's account and don't even pay subscription although the operating costs are quite different. But, even if they stop making new content (stop patches and expansion), which i can't seen till at least 4 years from now (Daoc and Ultima still produce new content) they will have the servers up and data available for quite a long time.

Eventually i think they will do an upgrade to WoW 2 or some kind of sequel.

Hopefully Blizzard's next mmo [http://www.blizzardnewmmo.com] will go that far and even farther.

You can't get "top tier" gear. You can get the bottom rung of tier 9 with triumph, but still need to do 10 and 25 man ToC to get the high end tier 9. You can get tier 10 with frost badges(if you don't raid it takes months for one piece) but need to do ICC for the high end tier 10. What people are earning now is the entry level stuff, this is a lot better than how the system used to work IMO. Where you where to far behind most guilds to raid ever if you didn't start when the expansion came out because you would be behind the content and unable to catch up.

The casual gamer that never raids is 98% of the world of warcraft population. People who see end game and raids are the extreme minority. Makes no sense to please you at the casual players expense.
