I am still unable to fathom why it's popular. I found it rather boring, but I guess it's always a matter of opinion.

The Old Republic is the only MMORPG I've ever considered really wanting to buy and play.

WoW is simply too big to be brought down by a new release. I have serious doubts that even Blizzard's rumoured new MMO franchise will bring an end to the madness. In other words, I agree with everyone else. I do however believe that SW:TOR will be a great game, and I intend to give it a try.

WoW isnt going down anytime soon; too big, and many people invested too much time, "life", and money in it.. basically, they are trapped/hooked.

All current MMOs are just grindfest games, with extremely boring and repetitive quests, and purely linear power progression.

I wish i could play one like a FPS, in settings like STALKER (post-apocalyptic place where the environment itself is dangerous), L4D(zombie SURVIVAL game, preferably) or Star WArs/Mass effect (futuristic).
Fantasy settings right now are boring, too flashy and overused, the only one i would want to see in multiplaer or MMO would be a fixed Oblivion for multiplayer, where ennemies dont need a million arrows/sword hits in the face to die.

There will not be a killer.
It will be suicide when Blizzard starts to fuck around too much with expansion 3005
They already killed it with their first expansion - it's just not what it was anymore.

But out of the options here I'd say Star Wars would topple it since it combines Star Wars and MMORPG - the 2 biggest nerd magnets possible.
It didn't seem to work so well for Galaxies...

Although in all fairness Bioware has at least proven they're slightly more competant than SOE.
True but Galaxies was brought out when WoW was at it's best and you didn't have to pay £25 per expansion pack. And yeah it was badly made too

It should be alot easier a game to get into than WoW and will likely be alot cheaper with less discs to buy

I think if anything WoW may end up killing itself, no longer finding a way to keep people interested in the game. They need to do something huge - which I hope Cataclysm will do for it.

People are getting annoyed with WoW but I don't think that there will be a game that can successfully end WoW's reign over the MMORPG. I think that a good competition for WoW will be The Old Republic.

You forgot to put down Global Agenda.

Anyway, I think EVE is a much better game than WOW. One of the few MMOs to actually require a degree of intellectual input.

I normally hate RPGS (I disagree with subscriptions and fees, and they come across as sluggish, ugly, hyper-nerdy, abstracted numbercrunchers that I could NEVER bring myself to like

However, I have recently brought into Champions Online. I have found an RPG that is both exciting and fun AND easy on the eye and brain.

This can only be good for the industry

Most people who play WoW have no life. Meaning WoW has no life. South Park was right "How can you kill that which has no life?"

You can't.

Unless someone obtains the sword of a thousand truths and destroys blizzard
