Phantasy Star Online was on consoles and it's a pretty darn good game. It could work if it was built from the console up. But I think most nah sayers here are the kind of hard core PC gamer who feels consoles ruin everything.

It would be easy to put all your abilities on a controller just use buttons as move modification buttons You could easily get to 36 moves I think even at 24 you could do your rotation, cooldown moves, and even buffs without having to do more than 1 or two button presses.

Can a console actually handle having hundreds of people on screen at once? Even if their Xbox network thing could support it, they'd have to scale back the graphics, and most people on consoles won't play a game without cutting edge graphics.

it wouldn't work unless it came with a keyboard and mouse. and i myself wouldn't play it because i found no fun in it, just constant grinding/repetitive questing.

Wouldn't work. They'd have to make the game fun instead of having it be a wonky ten thousand button game of Simon. Then you'd have a completely different game.

What a nice argument, brush us all under the same target will you. Name one advantage a controller has over a mouse and keyboard for an MMO (WoW in particular here), while I'll point out the major disadvantages, just off the top of my head here:
-Inability to write anything, so chatting with your guild mates or just people round you would take an hour. Say bye to emotes.
-Lack of a mouse would make inventory management literally 5 to 10 times longer
-Up to 6 spells you can use at any given time (optimistically, usually it's just 4).
-Targeting.

Not to mention consoles are pretty weak in the computing power department.

Believe me, consoles bring in a shitload of limitations on consoles, you have to be a fool to believe their potential is anywhere near as high with hardware capability issues this serious.
For one I said a MMO build for the console up, I was not referring to WoW. If they designed it to work with a joy pad in mind it can work, I had no problem playing PSO or PSU online for my console games. And yes I will sweep you all under a bloody rug because every time a console vs PC argument comes up it's always "Consoles are ruining PC games or dumbing them down". I play both console games and PC games and if a RPG is made for the PC in mind then yes it would not work at all because of all the buttons they use. But I also play games built from the ground up for consoles and handhelds and they work just as well (To be honest I prefer TES4 on my xbox over the PC any day of the week). And it seems to me your just another member of the "console can never ever have a game as good as PC" school of thought. Do I think one is better then the other, no I like the ability to mod games (And I do a little myself) and to play online with dedicated servers where people add there own charms to the game. But I prefer consoles also cause i can just play without having to worry about PC specs or any of that crap and it is fun also.

Now back on topic, if the MMO was built with console in mind then yes it could work. But I guess people don't wanna step back and say "hey this might work", cause it seems like everyone just shoots the idea down.

No. I'm not really into MMOs, but what I've been able t tell from playing RPGs like Dragon Age, KOTOR, Mass Efffect, etc. As well as the MMOs I have played. they run better on a PC as there are simply too few buttons to adequately run a complex control scheme. This would be worse for existing games like WoW as you're stuck with established mechanics, and there are existing players on PC who will have a big control advantage.

To make WoW "on console":

1. Buy low to mid-range PC.
2. Buy Xbox 360 controller for PC.
3. Plug PC into TV.
4. Bind buttons for Wow to controller.

It's definitely possible to play WoW with a controller, by the way. It doesn't need /that/ many buttons.

However, a big thing that would bug me if they released it on console (and if I still played) is the communication barrier that would be created. Not everyone would plug a keyboard into their console to talk, and those that did might as well play it on keyboard.

Maybe if they had separate realms for console players and PC players... Then the console players wouldn't get romped in battlegrounds all the time, too, since they wouldn't be able to move as fast or use addons.

What's the point? This means you'll have to have both a 360 and a PC, one version will be completely gimped and shitloads of work will have to be done to make these changes. All this just to get to sit your ass on a sofa?
I think with the amount of money blizzard has they could afford to port the game. And I don't think I'm alone when I say that I get sick of staring at a computer screen all day.

If i could plug in a keyboard and a mouse, bring it.
I'd love to play wow on my Ps3. Less lag and better graphics is always appreciated.

I get the feeling certain things keep getting reposted here, on The Escapist.

This topic has appeared before and everyone says NO. It would not work, end of.

If they could find a way to make it work easily, then I'm all for it. It'd mean I wouldn't need to buy an entire gaming rig...

but with the ammount of buttons needed to play WoW, or indeed any MMO, it's just unrealistic to expect it to work well on a console controller.

I've seen videos where people got WoW to run on a Wii and an Iphone - and it was horrible. There wasn't enough controls and the control schemes already in place worked very poorly.

Also think about what you're saying - imagine WoW on xbox live...you know where EVERYONE gets a mic with their console...
