I could care less about 256 player matches in massive maps.

Why?

Because more people doesn't automatically make a game better.

Yeah, I smell a trap, like you're trying to get some PS3 fan to argue how the 360 couldn't handle 256 players like you see in Mag...0o

Problem number one with Massive Action Game on the 360:

Microsoft: Microsoft being the evil corporation they are making really crappy consoles that die on you after three years right before the release of MAG and they greedy so they'd make you pay even more to play MAG online.

Problem number two

It makes no sense to put it on the 360 because MAG requires TEAMWORK something that 360 users are not capable of. *stares at mw2*

Problem number three

The PS3 is better anyways.
Bah! More fanboys...

XBL can support the type of server structure that MAG uses, can't it?

That's the point, XBL doesn't use servers at all. The player's consoles are the hosts for the games. This is why the maximum number of players on a game on XBL is something like 24, whereas PSN actually uses servers hence the support for MAG.

If Microsoft actually pay out for servers then perhaps we might see MAG-like online games for 360, but it's Microsoft, I don't see that happening. This is why I'm always very very reluctant to pay for my Xbox Live subscription. It should be free. If anything PSN should be the paid online gaming service.

Sorry got sidetracked there.

I have a mag related question, how many player will you likely see on a screen at one time. I mean can you actually see the 256 players, or is it actually like so many in a given area and when you move from area to area you change server or something.

I'm asking out of genunie curoristy here before you attempt to go all crazy fanboy rabid on me.

Exactly! We have a genius right here!

No sarcasm intended, that really does sum up my opinion

Yea, that's just what we need. A game that allows 27 different 13 year olds to scream into your ear instead of the standard 5. Sounds like a super duper plan.

On a more serious note, I find it hard to believe that MAG isn't going to be laggy as fuck. Just a hunch I have.
I keep hearing that the reason it can handle such a thing is because the map is partitioned off, so you're all essentially playing on the same map, but in your own sections.

Can anyone confirm that? If it's true, then MAG is lies. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, as the game looks enticing.

i've seen a tube vid where 128 players on a team converged and ran around for lulz.
wasn't that laggy.

360 doesn't have the power like PS3, it would be immpossible, maybe next gen.
Uhmm...Never mind. I won't start.

Seeing as I own all three consoles, I can skilly avoid the problem of not having MAG.
But...I don't see why it can't be done.
My 360 never lags when I'm online, even when I'm in large games in MW2.

It's just a PS3 exclusive, that's all.

MAG pretty much counts on, and sometimes forces you to be segregated from the other squads for most of the match. Very rarely will you actually come across any more than 10-20 guys at a time...

While their claim of 256 players is *technically* true, the experience is little more than concurrent CoD matches running on the same map.

I was wondering, who else thinks that the 360 should get a game like MAG?
Like I care. 360 owners got ME2 on the 26th, rated at 95%+. PS3 owners got MAG on the same day, with sub-par ratings at best, 80%-. I'll take a deep RPG over a generic shooter with extra players any day.

The one game I would want ported from the PS3 to 360 is Demon's Souls.
About no 360 Demon's Souls: It can't happen, due to the way the online component works and the pay-to-play nature of LIVE.
Ehh...it could easily be changed to require a gold membership for the online features. Now, it WON'T be ported because Sony needs to hang on to every decent exclusive for dear life, especially after losing sole control of FF13.

Which is unfortunate, because I'd love to play Demon's Souls even if it were ported to PC.
Well, Demon's Souls is awesome. Hell, one of my friends want to get a PS3 JUST for that game. I'm not saying it's impossible on 360, just more tricky.

And if it were on PC, it'd look better, but I can't really imagine playing the game without a controller.

There is so many things wrong in this thread, it makes my face hurt.

#1. XBL allows for normal, dedicated servers. L4D and L4D2 uses them. So does MMOs and, I'm sure, other games. This is not the issue.

#2. The PS3 doesn't have 7 cores. It has ONE, uno, ichi... ONE CPU core. It has 7 SPEs. SPEs are not CPU cores, nor do they work like a CPU core. Read up. This is not the issue either.

#3. It has nothing to do with the 360's design. If my 2004 Mid-rang PC can run MMOs and other massive games with little lag, the 360 should be able to do it lag-free. There is nothing, and never has been anything, keeping one system from running games similar to the other systems games. This goes for PS3's Killzone 2 and 360's Gears of War 2. Both can be had on each system, they arn't as mind blowing as you think once you remove your fanboy glasses. This is not the issue, period.

What is the issue? Money. No one developing for the 360 sees a game like MAG as being viable. After getting sick of the beta, I can tell you it's just another sub-standard shooter. Unless they come out with some really mind-blowing playlist or whatever for the full release, it's going to be a clusterfink of epic proportions lead by every 12 year old on PSN. The only reason we don't see this in the beta is because most kids couldn't talk their parents into the Qore subscription. It's turning into another Killzone 2 launch. It's going to be hailed as the savior of the PS3 by the fanboys, then it will fall faster than the nickers of a drunken prostitute... but I do enjoy my Killzone more than MAG. I don't like being screamed at by some fratboy with a Napoleon complex.

It all comes down to money, money, money, and more money. What doesn't the 360 have wireless? Money, Money, Money. Why does the games for all systems cost so much? Money Money Money. It's what the world runs on.

well to be honest the question I have is...why would you want to?

I played Resistance online with my friend, and I thought it was fun when we did the mode with different classes
sure it was cool at first with the regular death match having like 60+ people, but it just became chaotic and pointless
but again the class systems (I was on ammo supply guy duty instead of like spec ops...but still fun!). guess that's why TF2 is such a big PC hit

Sure, we could do with a game LIKE mag
But not MAG, thats a PS3 exclusive, and its needed.
And besides, it gives me a reason to dust off my ps3 and it also gives me a way to play with people I dont usually play with
