Plus, they even give great deals on the subscriptions at times as well.Baby Tea said:THANK YOU.squid5580 said:*Snip*
I can't say I'm Microsoft's biggest fan, but XBL Gold DOES have perks.
As mentioned above: Early access to demos, contests, weekly specials, etc.
Yes, PSN is free to game on. So is Steam, and Nintendo's online system.
But I prefer XBL over PSN's 'sign up for everything' and Nintendo's friend code system. Steam is excellent, but I don't game online on my PC much. I game on my 360, and I find value in my XBL Gold account. Plus it's less than $5 a month for a year. I find that price hard to argue with.
Service one screws up royal, gives presents to try to win back customers. Service two hasn't screwed up and is now expected to hand out presents too. Are you here to troll? Are you so spoiled? Come on.Raikazu said:So with the news that Sony are offering free games as a return on the PSN being down for almost a month, Xbox owners are now feeling slightly cheated. And understandably, in some respects. Xbox Live has so far remained a study network, but you'd expect it to at an annual cost of around £40. And that's where the new problem is coming in.
Despite it's pitfalls, PSN is free. And with free games for the downtime, you can't really be too angry at Sony anymore. Then there's Steam, the biggest gaming network for PC gaming. There's something in common here: they're both free. And the Wii, despite your reserves is the exact same.
Microsoft are starting to feel a strain after the news of Sony's 'Welcome Back' package, as many Xbox users are now claiming that despite Xbox Live never having significant downtime, they deserve something for their loyalty in the face of a monthly subscription.
I'm inclined to agree.
Urm...How is it a joke?Nihilism_Is_Bliss said:Haha Xbox live is a joke, they'll never make it free. At least not for this generation of xbox console.
Right...but that's not a lot of money by pretty much anyone's standards. Anyone who has ever worked a job can make that much and then some in a day, even if they're working for minimum wage.Raikazu said:So with the news that Sony are offering free games as a return on the PSN being down for almost a month, Xbox owners are now feeling slightly cheated. That's a pretty weak argument. "You get what you pay for" is in full effect here. It was a 'free' service, and now thousands of people have to go through the process of canceling and re-ordering credit and debit cards because that very same 'free' service wasn't secured very well.Raikazu said:Despite it's pitfalls, PSN is free.
I can still be mad that they had poor protection on important information that we trusted them with. This isn't making right what was wrong: this is trying to make up for it, and those are two very different things.Raikazu said:And with free games for the downtime, you can't really be too angry at Sony anymore.
Except Steam is based off the computer...which, unlike a console, is built around the concept of being able to connect with other computers. If it wasn't free, no one would use it.Raikazu said:Then there's Steam, the biggest gaming network for PC gaming. There's something in common here: they're both free. And there's a phrase for that: "unwarranted sense of entitlement."Raikazu said:Microsoft are starting to feel a strain after the news of Sony's 'Welcome Back' package, as many Xbox users are now claiming that despite Xbox Live never having significant downtime, they deserve something for their loyalty in the face of a monthly subscription.
You know what? Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea for Microsoft and Live to reward members for continued service from time to time. But for the love of Christ, don't think for an instant that they're obligated to do it because of this PSN rigmarole. The only way "loyalty" plays into this, as far as I can tell, is for players who don't suddenly demand gifts from the service that's performed exactly and consistently as described. That falls more in line with actual loyalty than the mercenary/extortion racket you're describing.Raikazu said:I'm inclined to agree.
Touche, still. Would be nice to get some free shit for once.Ranorak said:Of course you don't see a dime back!Aphex Demon said:Perhaps a few years running paying £40 a year and we don't really see a dime of it back other than playing online. Shops do it, ever heard of a loyalty card?Ranorak said:This is just another case of gamers being self entitled and greedy.
Why would anyone even think that because PSN gets hacked, XBL users should get compensation.
Why?!Aphex Demon said:We should get a reward for loyalty, or something of the like.
Why should we be rewarded for using a service that is there to entertain us in the first place?!
You pay for a service to play online, you get online play, weekly discounts, cross game chat, secure servers and it's all optional!
Stores do it to get an edge on the competition, clearly there is no need to do this, because you already have a Xbox and already am a customer of microsoft.
Where are these Xbox owners? Point them out so I can tell them to stop being so selfish. Their reward is not having all their personal information stolen and being at greater risk of identity theft, and that Xbox Live and ALL of its features were not down for almost a month.Raikazu said:So with the news that Sony are offering free games as a return on the PSN being down for almost a month, Xbox owners are now feeling slightly cheated.
The hell I can't. I reserve the right to be angry with them until I get my identity theft protection they promised. And they need to hurry up with that, because that's what makes Sony forgivable. Not an extremely piss poor selection of free games. And I'm actually getting more angry with Sony every day that I don't get that e-mail with the sign up instructions. Prioritize, Sony. People not having their lives ruined is more important than your online network.Raikazu said:Despite it's pitfalls, PSN is free. They didn't make a mistake they where hacked, they didn't accidently pushed the network off buttonjoystickjunki3 said:I do not agree, OP.
If any XBL subscribers are making this argument, which I doubt, then they are simply self-entitled little brats that help give a bad name to our community. I have an Xbox 360 and I am a Gold subscriber; I do not think Microsoft should be paying for Sony's complete and utter fuck-up.
On top of that, it's not like Sony just woke up the other morning and said, "Hey, you know what we should do? Just up and give away countless amounts of money... FOR FREE!!" This is an attempt to win back the loyalty of customers they lost after a colossal mistake. This is the least they could do.
As an owner of a PSPgo (don't hate, please), I am extremely pissed off at Sony for the way they handled the situation, so I absolutely deserve some free shit from them, given the context. Microsoft doesn't owe me anything at the moment.
This. If its free, then microsoft may be less inclined to maintain it.Aphex Demon said:We should get a reward for loyalty, or something of the like.
Xbox Live shouldn't be free because we wouldn't have such a refined online service like we do now.
