So last night I was at a mates place and we were playing Band Hero, we played the song American Pie by Don McLean. Everyone knows this song - I guarantee you - as we both played guitar we were sining along with it when we realized that during the chorus the word "whiskey" was blanked out as if it were explicit language.

Now I've always said that guitar hero (and rockband) should give you the option as to whether you want to say "fuck" and "shit" when playing vocals or not - as seen in GH2 and Hits somehow saying "...I won't do what you tell me.... .....I won't do what you tell me...." doesn't have the same effect - but really come on WHISKEY what is so wrong with you Activsion?

Now this might sound like a stupid petty little complaint, but I just cannot fathom why the word whiskey of all things from such an iconic song is blanked out!

I actually have to agree that censoring 'whisky' is a little ridiculous. Yahtzee had pointed out something similar in his Scribblenauts review that if the games industry is fine with letting us maim each other with any assortment of weapons then drawing the line at liquor seems a little stupid.
I have to say I agree, merely mentioning alchohol is not going to make kids want to drink anymore than mentioning brussel sprouts will make kids want to eat them.

Wow, if I had to guess, I would say that's so they can avoid a tougher rating for mentioning alcohol. That gets frowned upon and would mean that they would have a smaller audience that they could sell to. I mean, that would be my guess at their logic.

I don't know, perhaps they are just scared of some idiot ranting about it being in a game, then some group of idiots ranting about it game, then them getting media attention. To honesty, i'd understand their fear as people do seem to pick up on anything to try and slag off a game (think racism in left for dead 2).

Tell what song is Hilariously blanked out. Gaybar by electric six. They bleep out about 60% of the song, including nuclear war.

I don't think any part of a song should be blanked out. Ever. It just seems disrespectful to the people who wrote it by saying "Oh your song's great, except this bit, we'll cut that".

Gotta agree.

If the song has swearing in it or something you don't like, don't use the song.

"How about instead of 'baby, couldn't get much higher, you sing "baby, couldn't get much better?"

yeah, seriously. it's rock band. you sing rock songs. half of every rock song is about drugs. The other half are about sex. This censoring is stupid.

Censorship is a concept I absolutely despise. I believe people's thoughts are their one true stronghold and trying to control what enters and leaves them is just wrong.

That's what I always find funny about the people making a fuss if someone is smoking in a movie... if you don't want your kids to see people smoking, don't take them out in public. Someone is almost always smoking nearly everywhere you go.

This isn't as bad as in Guitar Hero Smash Hits they censored "blow" in Killer Queen when he says "Guaranteed to blow your mind."

Wait what...

Both of these censorships are ridiculous. Especially when the word is blanked out in such a way that it is extremely obvious. Then when you hear the original (Which you almost certainly will if you come to like the song), you're really gonna notice the word. So really it just brings attention to the word more than removing it.

But none of that erally matters since hearing a word like 'sex' or 'drugs' does not automatically made you addicted and know everything about it. Its just a word and half the time young kids won't even know exactly what it is.

It's utterly ridiculous. There's no point whatsoever... most kids have seen their parents drinking or drunk, hering the name of an alcoholic beverage is hardly gonna make a difference.

EDIT: OOPS! I voted for the wrong option. 'Yes' actually has one less and 'No' one more. Sorry...

That's just fucked. How dare they disrespect the song and the drink.
Do they think that kids will hear the word whiskey and suddenly become alcoholics? I'm sure some mothers think so, but I'm not convinced.
