It's just something I'm curious about. Whether most people have a 'best friend' of the same or different gender, and if you could please reply saying what you answered, and include your age because I'm wondering how much things may have changed over time. In my friendship group, established in the first year of high school, we are a basically 50/50 mix of boys and girls and it is rare that if there is a party or a sleepover or general social gathering that only one gender would be there. We don't really have girly sleepovers and the guys don't tend to do manly man sleepovers.
I'm a 16 year old girl and the person I consider to probably be my 'best' friend is a boy. I find this totally normal, he is just my friend who I can talk to for hours and get along with quite well (though we do have our disagreements and pet peeves etc) just like most people and their friends. But my mum, for a long time, could NOT understand the idea that he isn't my boyfriend. She still asks if 'anything happened' if I stay at his house or, the last time she asked that, we had shared a tent on a camping trip.
What about you, Escapists?

My best friend is a guy, and he's been my neighbor since we were kids.
I'm a guy, by the way.

My best friend is a guy. The one I would rank under his is female though. For the longest time my parents assume me and her were dating. I never understood why. I am male by the way.

When I was in high school my group of friends was the same. Although I wouldn't really say that I have a traditional BFF, I would say that at most times in my life the person that has come closest was pretty much always male. At some point in high school I felt that a girl was my best friend, but I was actually in love with her, so I don't think that was a very accurate assessment.

I am now 25 and the people I am closest with are all male.

My best friend is a chap. First chap I met at school in Year 2, and I've stuck with him into Year 10 now. (I'm a 15 year old manly man man. Honest.)

All the people in our little friendship group[footnote]I've yet to find a less...girly name than 'friendship group'. Apart from names like mandem crewage, gang, or posse, which I sound ridiculous saying.[/footnote] are chaps, I don't know why...we all have girl friends, they just never hang around with us.

I would say that my best friends are largely male, however one of my oldest friends is female and we might as well be the same person, it's surreal.

Male best friend, we both have the same very odd sense of humor and, of course, share similar interests.

I would like to note that I do indeed have female friends also.

I'm of the male disposition, and the individual whom I consider to be my best friend is of the female disposition. I don't really know how much more there is to say about this.

EDIT: Right, completely forgot that you wanted age as well. My bad. I'll be 18 quite soon. Also, in terms of how things change over time, my 'best friends' have been male up until very recently.

I'm a guy and so is my best friend, I do have some really good female friends but the title of best friend can only be handed out to one and that one just turned out to be male.

Edit: it appears I missed the part where you wanted our age, so to fix that I am a 19 year old male

I have a female best friend and I'm a guy. We've been friends since high school day one, and that's 8 year ago this autumn.
I have very few male friends, I basically don't get along well with guys. There's a few I'd call friends, but I'd probably not hang out with them one on one, it's mostly when we get together as a group.

I dont realy have a best freind, I have best freinds which consist of me (A MAN), two other men named marc and shaun, and a girl called lauren.

AND YES, I get the exact same all the time. at least once a month my dad/mum asks if "anythings happenind with her, or when we go out the go "OOOOOOO just you two alone hey" and have once even suggested I get my two guy freinds to leave, so we can be alone. ( on an unrelated note that was an epic night, all four of us were playing different retro consoles; the SEGA mega drive, Deramcast, ps1, and me on a gamecube if you count that as retro)

EDIT: I have a girlfreind now, btw and they have started to sugest I dont hang out with lauren as much, "Sigh"

Well, you don't make a very good case for yourself what with your avatar and your, ahem, "friendship group". Don't worry, no one's judging you!

OP: I... uh...

Well, to be honest, there was no one I ever thought of as "best friend". I just hung out with various different people. I never "fit in" like a puzzle piece next to someone, if you get what I mean. Couldn't tell you why. I don't mean to sound pathetic and friendless, because I'm not, but... yeah, there you go.
XD
Blast.
TO THE INTERNETS TO FIND A MORE MANLY AVATAR!

I honestly cannot picture you as a big bad Arnold man with that avatar. It is beyond my brain's ability I am afraid :( Maybe you could call it... "our guy's group", not too ridiculous, although mandem crewage does sound awesome, and not girly either.

And you are 15?! Last time I saw you post your age you were thirteen, hot damn does time fly.

OT: My best friend is male, and so am I. My past best friends have been male and female though, in about equal amounts. My current group of friends is me, my girlfriend, and my two guy friends. We also have another two occasional groupies, one is a girl, one a guy. And when we go out for non-school stuff, it is generally me and three other guys and three girls. All very confusing.

EDIT: I am 16.

Exactly the same with me. I am not really friendless but during my kid/teen years I always hung out with diffrent groups and diffrent people I just never stuck with one.

My best friend is also a girl, and we work so well because we can talk for hours about literally anything. And we often do. Our conversations usually go from topics like the political situation to particle physics and back to how cute the new dresses are we bought. :p
