Test it out, if it works I would begin killing people...lots of bad people.
Once all the bad people were gone (enough to where I'd be satisfied at least), I'd seduce older rich people close to death, get them to change their wills and leave all their money to me then I'd write their name in the Death Note...Actually, I could just write in the Death Note "Leave all money to ______ and die of a heart attack 3 hours later". I don't really want to seduce an old person. And if anyone questioned the will, BAM, walks into traffic
Then I'd seduce my Shinigami and get them to give up their lives for me. I wanna live a long time with that kinda power and money.
Basically, I'd be a self-righteous Anna Nicole Smith without the drugs...and a guy.

oh believe me, there would be quite a few dictators around the world that would be getting a lovely visit from my book..it would be long painful and public deaths for them, and i would make sure it scared the shit out of all of their followers in the process or more deaths would follow.
but besides that, not really..i don't generally wish ill upon people, hell i would do nice deaths for people i know nearing their end, i'd have them die fat and happy rather than alone and at their own natural time..

i have never watched death note before so how the hell does a book kill anything beyond illiteracy. but what ever i am going not even acknowledged the existence of the rules; so i choose not to to kill no one by bash some ones skull with the book because killing is wrong

first things first why the bloody hell would I hand it over to the goverment? Of course Im not doing that!!
That all said I think that first off I'd dream up the perfect elaborate/ironic/justice serving death for the adults in the Westboro Baptist Cult on another page in a different book! then I'd right it down in the Death Note, and turn the channel to Fox News and see if they die Live on TV as I've written that they would/should in the book! And if this works, I'd cackle maniacally(or squee with joy) before writing down some more names(goodbye and good riddance to ACLU leaders, evil world leaders, and maybe one person that may not be evil that I just don't like)

I wouldn't take it seriously, and IF i ended up testing it (to find out it works), i'd destroy it immediately afterwards.

idunno... i know i´m a fairly normal guy that fears death, but i would keep it untill something came up, thinking "i might never need it".
but the first momment i got drunk i would probably kill halve the people i know (for those are the ones that had made my life misserable)

I'm not familiar with the anime and therefore the rules of such books, but is it possible to wipe out entire groups of people? I'm not talking races here, I mean like, for example, rapists.
Kill everyone I dislike, and use it to gain a ton of money. Probably get bored being ultra rich after a while, so I'd try and create a new world. Of course I'd use trusted friends to be the figurehead of my power, so nobody knows my true identity. Something like that, anyways.
The user of a deathnote cannot go to heaven, no matter who they kill. Since this would confirm the existence of an afterlife, there'd be no fucking way I'd damn my soul like that! Not worth it.
Upon seeing rule: "If the Death Note is burned or destroyed, all who have touched it will die." I'd probably hesitate destroying it. Then I would hide it, until Ryuk showed up to taunt me. At which point I start believing it might be real. We'd eat some apples, and discuss the universe. Maybe Ryuk would find me interesting enough not to kill me.
I cannot justify murder. And purging the sinful, please... anyone who thinks you should eliminate those who have sin has no idea what the concept of sin means. Salvation comes from the freedom to forgive and choose to stop sinning, not oppression to acquire safety. To add the words of another man in red:

Tough call. I could use the book to kill off terrorists and dictators, but I'm a bit afraid I would slowly start killing more and more people until it got way out of hand. Probably safer to just hide it indefinitely - although that would leave the risk that someone suddenly find it centuries from now.
