If it happened today the other guy would actually catch a lucky break: I'd take 100%. It would be good research for something I'm working on.

Any other time though, I'd carry on walking.

Helping them means being there for them through the pain, rather then taking all of it on yourself. I would take a small percent of the pain, perhaps 10%, just to show the person that they are not alone, but to take anymore would be an insult while also being detrimental to myself. After all, it's their pain to experience. We all have our own pains, and in the end we are stronger for it, even if at the time, all we want is for the pain to go away. Who would I be to take away that experience? Who am I to cheapen that experience, out of my own misplaced sense of chivalry?

err... tl;dr: none, or just a little bit.

What a rediculous question.

To suggest that people need to take anotehr's pain upon themselves, even in a small quantity, in order to help is insane. In fact, one of the basic rules of life saving and other such activities is "do not put yourself in harms way".

So no, I wouldn't take any of a stranger's pain upon myself.. I'd be to busy calling an ambulance and trying to make them safe and comfortable until help arrived... of course I'd probably be horribly hurt by this mysterious phantom pain that just passes to other people by touch in this insane question.

Hell Ile take half of it, 30 minutes of anything non lethal is tolerable if its unavoidable, and there's no reason not to help someone if you dont stand to suffer too much from it.

Granted you did mention that the potential pain hes feeling is random, but that's a risk you stand to take.

Edit: The way I see it, non lethal pain is really just a stress issue, and stress isnt really..ynow, stressful if there isnt much of it. Bassicly you could say his stress level would be say, 200, if I took half of it, we would both probly end up closer to 50. It splits in your favor, since stress creates stress which creates more stress.

Compassion much? Some people have a very strong sense of compassion and will help any others in need, even if they don't know them, and will voluntarily put themselves in danger and fear. Like people that went to Haiti or Japan to help when their notable disasters happened. They didn't have to, and it was dangerous and hard, but they did it to help.

Also, this is entirely hypothetical.

Me? I would take... truthfully, I don't know. I really don't. I know for certain I would take a fair amount, but I don't know the exact amount. Probably 50/50.
The problem is that this question has nothing to do with compassion and depends entirely upon a mystical ailment that passes pain instantly to another without causing real harm.

Yes, I get the aim, but it is a completely unrealistic scenario.

If the question was "You see someone who's life is in danger, you can save them but it would be dangerous, do you take the risk".. Then I'd like to think I'd say "Yes".. but it isn't.. the question is based around a person in pain we know nothing about and who is suffering some mystical ailment.

Seriously, if the OP wants to post hypothetical situations at least make them reasonable so he can get reasonable answers.

I believe in compassion and mercy but um . . . I'm also a bit of a coward. And by a bit I mean I'm extremely cowardly. I can't take any pain, absolutely none. So I'm afraid out of being a complete and utter coward I simply can't.

100%, because in all truth I would die for a stranger. If I managed to live, then I could continue being a legacy and slowly recovering people one at a time. Especially those that break a bone but I would hesitate for a bit before trying- THAT crap hurts like heck.
Pretty much the same. I don't put much value on my life.

A-As long as it has nothing to do with the crotch area.

I'd probably take about 50% to 60% percent. I mean, its not like its going to kill me. But then again, its suppose to be excruciating...

I would take 100% out of curiosity. I mean seriously, how many of you are curious to know what its like to get shot for example, minus the damage of course? I would.

Also, this way they don't have to endure the pain. Not to sound incredibly sappy but "pain is weakness leaving the body" therefore I'll only get stronger enduring such an experience. No injury is the best part.

Assuming it's not some deplorable person who clearly deserves the pain, and working under the condition that no permanent injury is maintained, I would take all the pain away. Why? I don't know, but I've found to have an inordinately high tolerance for pain, such that the thought of permanent injury bothers me more than the actual pain. If there's no permanent injury, then not a problem for me. Interesting idea though...

I'd go 50-75. If I saw someone in pain, I'd already be helping him by the time I even thought about the consequences.
