Gender isn't that big a part of my identity,[footnote]It's a big part of how society views everyone, though, which is a problem[/footnote] so I think I could live with it. [small]Also, surgery frighten me.[/small] That's not to say that other people could not and would feel the need to do something about it.

[small]Also, not strictly the correct use of the word "alternate".[/small]

Well there is a theory that it isn't a psychological issue (sometimes) but a neural issue. We all have this thing called Proprioception (might not be the right spelling) which is the sense of your own body, how you know where all the parts of yourself are right now without having to look. It's how you can find your mouth with your eyes closed and why the cops used to use the "touch your nose" drunk test since alcohol screws it up.

Anyway they think it might be a case that the limb is physically there but according to the brain there is no limb there. I imagine it would be like knowing heart and soul that you should only have one arm but here's this whole other arm stuck to you. An alien appendage that isn't yours. It must be pretty fucked up.
I'm not sure about that. I have heard of the condition [footnote]Which is tragic...alot of people aren't allowed to have bits surgically removed, so they use, for example, train tracks. It's also one reason why turning into a giant monster and devouring your enemies wouldn't work, along with having to learn to walk again with bizarre new proportions[/footnotes], but in this particular case, why would the new bits feel any different to the old? In any case, gender reassignment surgeries are (as yet) quite a long way from perfect. A neovagina is very different from a vagina.

Asexual so no real loss, though it would be a bit odd. Probably would still try and get my penis back but not gonna be terribly depressed if I can't.

Erm... Make loads of money pandering to and odd fetishistic nude photography market?

That's an odd question. Could I perhaps wake up with crustacian shell or something? That seems a lot easier to answer.

If I still looked like me I'd see about getting it restored. If I looked like a hot chick I'd buy a lot of leather and hit the nearest gay bar.

I seriously think I'd make a better gay woman than a straight guy.

Well, I mean, supposing everything does work, then I guess having to put up with menstruation would be a negative... Actually, I need some specifics, here. Am I the same as a woman, hormonally? I mean, I'm already assuming I can achieve orgasm in the same way, so it isn't too much of a stretch to apply that logic to every part of the transformation- really, I am just a masculine woman, now. Hell, I'd stop growing facial hair at the rate I currently do, so I'd end up being a kinda masculine woman, with my girlish figure.
For the record, all other things are equal, like in sexual reassignment surgery without hormone treatment / breast implants. You still look and feel exactly like you do now, only you have a vagina. Or a penis. Your new organ is sexually functional, but you can't get pregnant or impregnate. Yesterday you were male, now you're (sort of) female.

Here's the thing, even no matter what we think, we can't know what we would do unless we were actually in that situation.

I think they do need help, but not the kind of help you're thinking of. They need acceptance. Transgender is a glitch in the brain that makes people feel uncomfortable with their gender, so they take on a different one. It's up to them if they want to go all the way.

If they can "cure" transgendered people through drugs, some might sign up. But I doubt it would work in the long run. Anyway, my point is, don't force them into it.

Since this seems to be the plot of a wacky but touching fish-out-of-water movie starring Jim Carrey, I'd just wait it out until Act 3.
All joking aside, that's probably what I would do. I'd go with it until I couldn't take it anymore. Then and only then would I get it changed back.
Oh, and I'd be a lesbian if I could. I don't think I'd be a very pretty woman, hence, "if I could."

This is modern day. I doubt it'd be painful or that risky for said operation, although if someone who's actually experienced it is reading through this or someone who KNOWS (not guessing) the details feel free to say.
Personally I'd want to change back - it'd be way too weird to be the opposite gender, especially since - to put it simply, I highly prefer cock, being a girl would just be too weird for me to deal with. That's just me personally though, I dunno about anyone else.

Masturbate, a LOT

Then go get laid

Then keep it and enjoy, I wish I'd been born a female anyway, but I'd never do a sex change or anything.
