Why graphics over gameplay? Graphics are important if you're the type of person who playes videogames to escape to an alternate reality. I like the world where I play to look good, I want to be sucked in; see, graphical quality is the most important part of immersion.

Now some of you might say: HEY WHATABOUT MINECRAFT????!1eleven

Well I say: good game, good graphical style, immersive due to the good graphics. Minecraft has good graphics, it just uses an uncommon style. But the low res textures...they look good, no?

Graphics provide immersion.

Immersion provides escapism.

I choose the lives system. Videogames don't need my quarters anymore, and I don't need a limited lives supply.
What about the likes of classics such as FF VII? That is one of the most immersive games I've ever played and its from the PS one era... And I only played it this year so don't go saying it had good graphics for its time (not even sure if that is true?)

Valid point, but at the time the developers put effort into the graphics. At the time of release, those would have been good graphics.

And honestly, ff7 was yet another angsty teenager with an over-sized sword JRPG. I preferred ff4, but even that one was so-so. I hate FF with a passion.

In fact the only good JRPG I ever played was Chrono trigger. And you know what? It had superb gameplay, but the 2d 90's graphics were so good and beautiful in their unique style that it has multiple places in my heart.

Graphics over gameplay.

Because when Pokemon Gold is better than all of the other games in my recent memory, something is very fucking wrong.

8-bit forever.

Lazy/shallow story lines.

Personally, I can overlook just about ANY gameplay issue as long as the story is a solid, interesting one. My favourite games are based on how enthralled I was with the story, not the graphics or gameplay, hence why my top 3 are all from different genres (Bayonetta, Enslaved and Oblivion).

Lazy scripts and plot just annoy me. I often don't get very far in games because the plot is poor. Yes, I know I should give the story lines a little longer to kick in, but I don't have time to entertain unnecessary nonsense, especially if there are better game plots out there. If the plot or characters haven't interested me within the first 20-30 minutes, I switch off.

I'm a harsh critic :D

I also hate it when games make you go back to earlier locations to collect things purely as a way of padding out the game to make it seem longer than it actually is. But I hate that less than poor plots.

I can't remember any of game clishes, maybe it's because of my amnesia.
XD, Well said sir.

OT: None of these, cause they're not the worst offenders imo. The worst offenders are:
1)Gravel voiced White guy with short brown hair and stubble
2)Hyper Sexualized, and fakely bad-ass'ized female supporting character.
3)Beat the Evil [things] to save the World/Universe/America/girl.etc.

The trick where you heal by staying out of the way and sucking your thumb whilst waiting for cranberry juice to disappear from in front of my eyeballs. Gawd, that's annoyed me so much about games these days, what was so broken about the health-meter system of "Charge in, mow everyone down, staple med-kit to face, move on", anyway.
However, I'm gonna vote for QTE's, simply because it's just selfish game design.

Bloody graphics over gameplay, I'm tired of playing the same game in a different, slightly shinier (or grittier) skin.

You're using graphics as a scapegoat for lackluster gameplay. Just because the graphics are better than the gameplay doesn't mean that more effort was put into graphics while forgetting gameplay, or that effort SHOULDN'T be put into graphics at all. You should demand that good graphics be kept, and that gameplay simply be better.
I have nothing against graphics, please don't misunderstand that. I agree that good graphics are a good feature, what I am annoyed at is clones of the same game (eg. COD) being released reguarly without any significant gameplay changes, just a different skin.

One game with amazing graphics that I loved is Vanquish. Not only was it stunningly beautiful, it had innovative gameplay. That is an example of good gameplay AND graphics. Best of both worlds.
Fair enough. Thing is, call of duty sucks in both graphics and gameplay...

"Time to start a new adventure with all my power ups!"

*trips over and all her crap falls down a drain*

"Nooooo, my power ups!"
DECLINE OF VIDEO GAMING WAS AWESOME!!!!!

OT: Graphics over game play. Most of the stuff is tolerable except this. Between Super Meat Boy and Magicka, a total of which I spent 13.50 usd between the two, I have had more fun than any CoD or Halo game.

Also, if you have not bought Magicka yet, you hate puppies :D

My choice of insta-kills/pit falls is heavily influenced by the fact I'm currently playing Half Life. It may have introduced new and innovative forms of in-game story telling, but bloody hell it's still rooted in the worst elements of 90s FPS level design.
...You voted what I voted FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON.
I'm playing Half Life as well (well, Half Life: Source) and I agree the level design is so... ugh. I too like the story, but that Gonarch boss actually made me use the cheats, because I had killed if 5 times, and each time I would jump into the teleport, but so would it's babies of annoyingness and they'd kill me WHILE I WAS TELEPORTING. I got so mad after the 3rd time it happened that I turned on god mode, and those unescapeable pits of toxic waste were frustrating as well. Still, awesome game.
Although I freaking hate those flying things with the huge heads that throw fireballs that sound like baby monkeys with mental handicaps.
Oh, and without insta kills, QTE wouldn't be so awful and annoying.
