Alrighty then, time for a question about your morals to brighten up your day!
So...

An armed man bursts into your house holding a gun in his hand. He rounds you and your family up and tells you he's going to kill you and your family right now.
Now, you happen to have a fully loaded gun right by you at the time. You pick it up; hold it in your hands.
Here's the dilemma.

You have no option to shoot the intruder's foot or any other part of the body that will only wound him. You either kill him or he kills you and your family. Now, it goes against all your moral and religious beliefs to murder another human being dead (for the sake of this question, let's say that you are of a religion that disapproves of this), would you shoot the intruder dead to save your family? Or die upholding your beliefs?

That is the question I ask you, Escapists.

I can't possibly answer that since I have never had a strong belief in anything.

Can I just shoot him in the foot or something, meaning less chance of him dying?

Or just use dead eye and disarm him :D

Well, obviously.

Dying isn't high on my priority list, and not doing so would result in the deaths of people I presumably care about.

I sure as hell wouldn't enjoy doing it though. Probably need counselling afterwards :/

To dodge the question I would just shoot him in the gun arm, or the leg.

I'm not a religious or highly moral person, so I can't really imagine myself in this situation.
But, for the sake of argument, I'm a rational guy and I'll shoot him.

I believe it's wrong to kill people. But people threatening to kill other people must accept that they by putting other people in danger, forfeit their own life provided that is the only solution.

Kill the fucker.
Hurt my family and I'll make your death look like an accident.

My science teacher told me shooting someone in the leg is the worst place to shoot them, a main artery is in your leg or something.

I'm afraid I can't really say how I'd feel if I was devoutly religious since... I'm not.

I believe the only right more sacred than your right to breathe is your right to continue to breathe, and anyone who challenges that right has forfeited their own. Anyone who attempts or manages to take a life for a purpose other than self-defense or the defense of others has forfeited their humanity and is fair game to any number of horrors that the general public deems fit...

...in my opinion.

Yeah, I shoot the bastard. Self-defence isn't murder.

Also, why the FUCK would I have a gun if using it is against my beliefs?
We have a winner.

Well, that was quick

I'd kill him. The moment a criminal breaks the law, they sacrifice any human rights they have in my opinion. Obviously that varies per example, but if a guy is holding a gun to my family, why does he deserve his life? He doesn't, it's forfeit, he dies.

Morals don't come into it. Something called Self-Preservation does.

I'd kill the bastard for my sake, I wouldn't be thinking about my family at that very moment when I have a gun-flailing mad-man sticking his weapon in my face. It'd be a case of me or him.

While there may be some things I feel strongly about enough to die (well, I can't think of any yet, but let's roll with it) I think it's a bit much of me to ask my family to die for my beliefs. The moment the guy started rounding up my family, he'd have a few more holes to breath through.

That said, I'd like to think I'd feel a certain degree of guilt after the event anyway. I'd feel strange if I just walked the whole event off.

EDIT-

...The worst?

I hope this teacher isn't in biology. I'm no doctor, but I imagine someone would have a high chance or survival if I shot them in the leg than if I shot them in the head.

If he's threatening others, and if killing him is the only option, then killing him to save others' lives is an acceptable reason to do so.

He would have never had the chance to round up my family. I would have heard him break in and he would have died the moment I saw a gun.

Screw religion, it's kill or be killed. The intruder is going down.

No, I'm pretty sure that the worst place to shoot somebody is in the head. Not to say that shooting them in the leg isn't bad, of course.

I'd shoot em'. I'd save my own skin before I die for some stupid moral rule that I put in place to make myself feel better.
