If you don't kill the one person, you are basically killing everyone else. sacrifice one person to save 10 people is the way the world works, even superheros follow this.

Two in the head, you know they're dead.
Surprised a whole 8% voted no, can't see a single post from one of them anyway.

I don't have any beliefs like that to uphold and never have, but as far as I know I'd kill him.

You either kill him or he kills you and your family
So it's no longer a moral issue; why the hell wouldn't I kill him if not doing so results in my certain death?

1. We're not allowed guns in the UK.

2. When would you get the time to pick up a gun without getting shot?

3. Why wouldn't you be able to wound him?

4. I'm not of strong religious belief.

5. I'm in the army.

It's self defence, so shoot the bastard. I hold the lives of loved ones in higher regard than some beliefs, I'm silly like that.
So let 'em eat lead.

I would shoot him, he was threatening to kill me and my family, the way I see shooting him is self defense.

Also the life of my family means way more to me than the life of some trespassing criminal scum, so yeah he'll die.

Alrighty then, time for a question about your morals to brighten up your day!
So...

An armed man bursts into your house holding a gun in his hand. He rounds you and your family up and tells you he's going to kill you and your family right now.
Now, you happen to have a fully loaded gun right by you at the time. You pick it up; hold it in your hands.
Here's the dilemma.

You have no option to shoot the intruder's foot or any other part of the body that will only wound him. You either kill him or he kills you and your family. Now, it goes against all your moral and religious beliefs to murder another human being dead (for the sake of this question, let's say that you are of a religion that disapproves of this), would you shoot the intruder dead to save your family? Or die upholding your beliefs?

That is the question I ask you, Escapists.
I don't get it.

* If I don't believe in killing someone to protect myself/my family, why do I have a gun right by me? Why am I holding it?
* If I do own a gun, and I am holding it in my hands, thinking about this scenario, why hasn't the intruder shot me yet?
* If I've grabbed my gun and the intruder hasn't shot me yet, is he even a threat? Perhaps he's all talk? Wasn't he going to shoot me "right now"?

Sure, for sake of the discussion, I can grant you this.

Now, it goes against all your moral and religious beliefs to murder another human being dead (for the sake of this question, let's say that you are of a religion that disapproves of this)
But this fundamentally changes me as a person. How am I supposed to know what someone who isn't me will do in a dilemma like this? The question is nonsensical.

its not about my morals if your saying you are in this hypothetical religion. It dosent work if you say you must believe in this because it isit our morals its just someone were Role playing in this situation. It becomes what would they do in this situation not what would we do.

Based on my real believes shoot the dam guy. He has no problem ending my life and my family so i have no problem ending his.

If they come in there guns blazing saying they're going to shot my family then that's full right to shoot them first. Protecting your family, regardless of religion, should be the first priority. Taking a life is wrong, but don't you deserve the right to defend your loved ones if some crazy psycho bursts in your house?

I'll kill the intruder.

I may choose to die for my beliefs, sure, but I won't make my family die for them.

Yeah, I shoot the bastard. Self-defence isn't murder.

Also, why the FUCK would I have a gun if using it is against my beliefs?
Why the FUCK can't we choose if we're religious or not (if we obviously aren't)?
Why the FUCK can't we shoot him in either of his legs?
Why the FUCK can't we shoot him in either of his arms?
Why the FUCK would...yeah, why would one have a gun, then?

This dilemma is quite perplexing. I definitely don't want to kill someone, but if I had to save multiple people, who are also my fuckin' family, then of course I would. And I would shoot him in the hand first, to disarms him, and then in the leg, to avoid him coming and, I don't know, punching me, or something.

Also, I wouldn't die upholding my beliefs. I've never had strong enough beliefs in some things to die for them, but I would kill someone for my beliefs, and one of those beliefs are that my whole family is worth much, much more than some random criminal.

Murder is against my religion, killing (like in this circumstance) isnt. (yes im going with the strict definitions of them both, murder being unlawful premeditated killing of another human, basically to kill someone with the intent to kill them, it is a type of killing yes, but there is a difference)
