While bored at work one day I pondered what my stats would be if I were a DnD character (Strength, Dex, etc). So I made a character sheet based on my personal abilities and equipped only with stuff I own (this was largely possible because I own an armory's worth of spears, shields, axes, swords, etc but I imagine it would be interesting to see what other stuff people would grab).

So Escapistites, what would your stats be? 10 is average, 11-13 is above average, 14-17 is exceptional, and 18-20 is top level (Stephen Hawking would have about 20 INT for example). Also what that you own would you take for weapons/armor (Firearms not included because that is cheating)?

STR- 12 (+1)
DEX- 16 (+3)
CON- 12 (+1)
INT- 14 (+2)
WIS- 14 (+2)
CHA- 7 (-2)

and I'd take my padded gambeson, steel gjermundbu style helmet, leather bracers, mail covered leather gloves, my biggest center-grip shield, sling, javelin, small handaxe, spear, katana, gladius, and bowie knife. Starting as a Fighter I'd have 11 HP and thanks to my armor (which due to the helmet I rated as the utterly nonsensical "Studded Leather") and shield as well as the fighting "Style" Fighters get in 5e my AC would be 18. I wouldn't be too awful as a level 1 Fighter.

I would be a monk with a 6 ft bo stick and the clothes on my back. I have something here that would fit that role quite well, sadly no armor to speak of unless denim counts. I only kill if absolutely necessary - think Walking Dead's Morgan. So under the D&D Class system, I guess that'd make me a rogue, an unassuming character kinda in the background who's more badass than he seems. I'd probably cover the crowd control slot in a group, stunning and knocking down enemies. I do regularly exercise so my strength is above average and a bit hard to hide however. Unintentional critical attacks would be both a blessing and a curse.

Oh, why not.

STR - 12 (Six foot frame and regular exercise.)
DEX - 10
CON - 11 (Probably flattering myself, but I like to think I'm somewhat hardy.)
INT - 10 (I honestly have no idea if I'm smart or not.)
WIS - ?? (How the fuck does one quantify "wisdom"?)
CHA - 07 (A socially awkward guy on a gaming website, who would have guessed.)

As for weapons, umm... an axe handle and a couple of pocket knives?

I'm pretty sure I just described a peasant.

I'm fat and lazy, for physical stats. For mental, I'm not my own best judge cuz I have low self esteem but whatever, I got into college, that's probably worth 12's. I'm probably as good and bad as everybody else at meeting people.

Personality wise, I'd probably be cleric. I do have high protective instincts, but don't want to actually get into the hacking and slashing business, I like my fingers where they are.

Edit: what the heck OP, no cleric or mage?

Str - 8 (just doing less physical work than typical D&D-style pseudomedieval farmers. And i am not actually doing anyspecial mucle building, just normal sports)
Dex - 12 (Can do some pretty detailed artsy stuff. Still hobby level because of time, but fine motoric seems to be dex too)
Con - 12 (I am pretty healthy. No serious illness for several year.)
Int - 15 (academic titles and stuff)
Wis - 12 (There are very few decisions i regret and i find myself not often surprised by the outcomes of things i do)
Cha - 7 (I don't particularly like social interactions. I don't go to parties, i skip most festivities and prefer something quieter like reading a book. Also i can't lie convincingly)

armor and weapons :

Atm a bit low on real weapons so i would have to usee tools like (one handed) hammers or knifes first or craft something. For armor i would use my gambeson, my morion, my cuirass, arm greaves and depending on the situation one of my chain armors. Probably the smaller size for under gambeson expect when it is really cold than i might take the over the gambeson one. But the latter is a bit heavy.

Class : Well, i could go with the catch-all Expert NPC class, but that would be kind of boring. If expert were allowed here, everyone would probably best be modelled as expert because of the customizable class skills alone. I am still certainly more of a skillmonkey than a brute, so no fighter or barbarian. As not that social person who also can't perform, bard is out. Ranger or rogue ? The only "weapon" i have seriously learned is a foil, i don't do two weopon fighting and have little experience in archery, so i just say rogue. There is still the armor issue though, but as i use armor not exactly on a daily basis, i am probably "untrained", even if i can move in it just fine.

No, that is not a build i would use in a D&D game. But i as a person would not be very suited to be an adventurer anyway or stupid enough to try it.

@ SupahEwok
Yes, seems like classes that mostly contribute magic are out as we as persons can't do any magic. Unfortunately D&D is a pretty fighting focused game

Well it's hard to define my stats but my class is too straightforward, I'm a rogue I straight up used to steal shit and broke into people's houses when I was a teen, I also know how to lockpick and my preferred weapon is a pocket knife, not to mention that it's the class I play the best in D&D even if it's not my favourite (Warlock and Trickster Priest are my preferred classes).

As for my stats.

Strength------ 6 - I'm pretty thin and kinda wimpy and I can't really carry much stuff and my punches don't hurt.
Dexterity----- 13 - I'm not super agile but I can make precise movements and am good at picking locks and skulking.
Constitution-- 8 - Though I'm wimpy I can actually take a lot of damage and don't get tired that fast, still below average, though.
Intelligence-- 11 - Slightly smarter than an average person but not brilliant or anything.
Wisdom-------- 14 - I know a lot of shit about everything and have fairly OK common sense, good at spotting details and despite not being driven I'm pretty hard to scare and/or intimidate.[footnote]I grew up around gangs and shootings and was accustomed to spending nights on the street since I was 5 so of course I get a high will-save.[/footnote]
Charisma------ 5 or 15 - Charisma is hard to define for me, because though I'm good looking and can be weasely and I actually used to scam people, I'm very socially awkward and can ruin negotiations because of that, however, my non-threatening social awkwardness makes me more likeable to normal people so it could go either way, in any case it's either my worst weakness or my biggest asset depending on any situation.

The build is honestly downright awful for a Rogue, I'd say it could maybe make a passable but below average Bard maybe? Except I don't work as a Bard because I can't play music or recite poetry at all, could make an OK Sorcerer, again this is assuming we're taking Charisma as a 15, maybe even a Warlock, however, my class gets pre-chosen because like I said I used to steal shit, mostly tat and then tricked people into buying it which is a very Rogue thing to do.
[sup][sup]Don't judge me I grew up in the not so good parts of Mexico most people I knew were worse than I was, besides the fact that I looked like a 10-year old girl when I was 16 helped to get me out of a lot of trouble, just pretend you are lost and going to cry and suddenly people don't think you might be a thief...[/sup][/sup]

By the way do keep in mind that according to D&D 10 is technically above average and everything from 16 and up is supposed to be downright exceptional, so I'm giving myself more or less realistic stats, I mean I gave myself a 15 and 14 so it's not like I'm humble or anything but I'm not exceptional at anything.

Oh, hey, this'll be fun!

Class? That's hard. Probably a multiclass rogue/paladin, if a such thing is possible. High will save and determination, with a focus on deception/bluffing, use magic device(or whatever it's now called in the current edition), disable device and sense motive. Standard rogueish skills, yet driven by a determination to help and protect others, to stand in harms way and protect those that I care about. Only, I'm not religious in any way, but I thought I heard that was no longer a requirement for paladins?

Weapons of choice. A bow, maybe. Used to do archery on amateur level at a decent proficiency. But, if I had to pick my favoured type of combat, I'd go with a light shield and a bastard sword that can also be wielded two-handed.
Light leather armor for me. Got to have that mobility!

STR - 12 (tall with strong build and regular exercise)
DEX - 12 (not particularly fast or agile, but good fine motor skills and capable of threading very softly)
CON - 11 (rarely get sick and fairly good endurance due to regular exercise)
INT - 12 (pretty clever but not exceptionally so)
WIS - 10 (ok common sense but mitigated by being somewhat scatterbrained)
CHA - 8 (average looks and socially awkward)

Don't know what kind of class that leaves me. Not great for any of the martial classes or the full casters. Maybe some kind of gish, Duskblade or something? I'd probably use a spear since those have a fairly low entry level, skillwise, at least compared to something like a sword or bow.

CHA - 12 (I'm charismatic like crazy but also mildly asperger)

Why is there no druid choice?

STR - 10 (But oddly distributed, 7 upper body probably 13 lower body)
DEX - 11 (again, oddly distributed. very flexible but not particularly nimble or quick and with extremely deft hands)
CON - 11 (I can tolerate a lot of pain and almost never get sick, but pretty average elsewhere)
INT - 12 (I'm smarter than average, but not as smart as I think I am... I think that means about a 12)
WIS - 9 (see above)
CHA - 8 (ugly as sin but socially pretty adept, if you can get past the looks)

But I gotta say, never play a pen and paper rpg with the "make yourself" character. A friend once started a game of Palladium's Nightbane with "put yourself on the character sheet. Be honest, put your own possessions in your inventory, do up your stats, start with the cash you have on you right now... that sort of thing"

What followed was the most disturbing and very unsettling adventure I had ever been involved in. And not in the good way. It was highly entertaining, but as we decided not worth how very uncomfortable it made all of us.

STR - 8 (I'm not very strong, but I sure can jog indefinetely)
DEX - 5 (I'm as flexible as a brick wall)
CON - 14 (Strong immune system and can tolerate pain)
INT - 12
WIS - 13 (People say that I have plenty of book smarts)
CHA - 11 (Orator skills and a pretty face compensane for my complete social ineptitude)

Class? Perhaps Cleric/Rogue, since I never was a face and helped identify herbs, injuries during camping trips. I know how to treat infections (mostly because of my bad luck having to deal with them) and bandage open wounds. Recieved very basic firearm training, so I can assemble, dissasemble and clean weapons. Plus, I've tried on medievil armour and frankly, I doubt I would be able to run around in it all day.

Probably if I lived in a Fantasy setting, I would be an alchemist that would create remedies, as well as various "combat stimulants"

Druids can do magic, and so unless you can do magic in this reality you can't really be a druid, paladin, cleric, etc.

I think it could be fun with the right people. They'd have to be decent at keeping themselves out of the game (while putting themselves in it) and keep themselves and "themselves" separate.

lol ok er my class would probably be Fighter I suppose. Lets see

STR - 12 (Im not very tall but I can hit pretty hard since I have trained in martial arts for a number of years and do 500 push ups a day and usually a lot of manual labour so im believe I am fairly strong even if I have passed my prime, most likely flattering myself though).
DEX - 9 (good with my hands and have good balance but flexibility is not my strong point.)
CON - 10 (robust enough had a few accidents with things falling on me, people hitting me with stuff etc but came out ok with no major damage).
INT - 8 (Im pretty dumb overall, I like to think I am knowledgeable on a few select things but yeah im dumb and have to work hard to get most things to stick).
Wisdom - 10 (I can do some pretty foolish things but also feel I can be quite insightful on others. I am nothing special though you wont find pearls of wisdom spilling from my tongue at every word so just put 10 as an average)
CHA - 5 (usual) - 14 (if drunk or have warmed up to you).

For weapons I would have I really dont know probably some knuckledusters or a knife or staff since I have at least a little knowledge in how to use them. Maybe I should play with these stats and then just get killed by the first kobold.....as usual stupid dice rolls if I had a luck stat it would be 3.

I remember an extensive quiz that determined your entire DnD character based on you. I got Chaotic Good Gnome Bard...

Anyways...

Str: 5. Im trying to be fair to people with legitimate atrophy, cause my grandmother is literally stronger than me.
Dex: 12. I only give me a slight bump cause of reflexes. I couldnt climb shit though.
Con: 7. I dont get sick often, but I bruise easily. I HATE when people are like "That didnt hurt"...cause it did.
Int: 15. I know things, I like knowing things, and if it was lower, I wouldnt have graduated high-school due to not doing most of my work. I do well on tests though, cause I understand logic. Slept all through world history and still aced the final.
Wis: 18. Ok, the arrogance of this suggests a lower wisdom score...but do I get points for knowing that? I just think I am far more perceptive than "number smart". Plus wisdom usually effects spot skills, and mine is high.
Cha: 5. As shown, I am arrogant. I think my self-described int and wisdom is what helps offset my low charisma...sometimes. Plus I dont think I look great.

I got no armor, nor would I be proficient in any of it. Only legit weapon I got is a wooden staff. My brother has tons of actual weapons, so maybe I can take his.

I am proficient with a bow though. Now if only I owned one.

7 str I'm 6'-1" and 150 lbs. Beanpole
14 dex I'm friggin nimble, yo.
7 con I drink to much and I don't eat healthy
14 int I got separated from the pack in middle school and thrown in with the high IQ bunch.
12 wis I've seen some shit.
11 cha I'm a salesman. We need this.

I'm going with bard. Probably chaotic good. I can play pretty much any musical instrument that I get my hands on. I have plenty, so I'm ready to go at a moment's notice. I have a hard time resisting telling a joke or entertaining anecdote, to a fault. Also, I'm of little use in a fight.

Also, this is a great idea, OP.

How frequently you let your emotions (fear, love, sadness, greed, hype) cloud your good judgment or affect your actions over reason. In DnD, resistance to mental influence as well as to many magical effects is affected directly by wisdom.

Wisdom is also about understanding things beyond fact and objectivity and other people's emotions. Hence why skills like Insight and Perception are wisdom. A good guidance counsellor would likely have good wisdom.
