It's all in jest. I'm sure Altorin didn't mean it.RedMenace said:Is someone in need of a Banhammer threat? Seriously, making a reply just to call someone a name is asking for it. I think you'll find ALL threads need polls, regardless of their content!
D&D levelling system is my favourite, especially when you get Roleplaying EXP.
O YES HES A BIG DORK
O NO BUT HE IS KIND OF A DINGUS
We're such good friends we don't need to talk to each other?Altorin said:lol

he had the audacity to throw a giant OBJECTION img in my face?
I didn't have anything nearly as awesome to throw back at him, so I mocked his idea in the altorin style, which is to say, in a drunken moron sort of way.
if anyone needs a banhammer, is the thread creator for creating such an inane poll.
Great points, except that TES leveling is more roleplaying than most other games, and that the whole "OCD must get +5 on level up" is stupid and not required.Grampy_bone said:I like the Elder Scrolls system in theory, but it's execution is completely messed up. The way your skills tie into an arbitrary level-up, which awards stat points based on how many skills you used in the intervening period, encourages boring activities such as running around in a circle, jumping up and down in one spot, sneaking into a corner, etc; and even completely counter-intuitive activities such as a sword specialist avoiding using a sword and using an ax instead in order to avoid hampering his overall strength growth. The custom character class system again encourages skill assignments based not on a role playing idea or character concept but on optimal stat growth. Really, the Elder Scrolls system is a nightmare.
You must not have played either NwN game that extensively. They capped you on four classes for NwN and three for NwN 2. It was REALLY annoying in NwN2 because I couldn't do my Rogue/Sorcerer/Arcane Archer/Dragon Disciple combo like I wanted to. Bard combo'd with Arcane Archer and Dragon Disciple pretty well, though.PedroSteckecilo said:E
Never Winter Nights, or 3/3.5e DnD is what I find the most fun in an electronic medium, I love being able to switch classes onthe fly and learn 100 different abilities should I so desire. This puts it a step above KOTOR because I could be a Level 11 Fighter/Ranger/Rogue/Barbarian/Druid/Paladin/Monk/Sorceror/Wizard/Cleric/Bard if I REALLY wanted to.
This was explained to me a while back once. Higher levels/ more HP are supposed to represent your characters ability to redirect, avoid, or "absorb" damage. When you only have a few HP, weak attacks cause a greater percentage of your total HP because you're not able to avoid the damage making it more lethal. Once you have gained a few levels and some HP, that is supposed to represent your ability to twist and turn, dodge and duck, or simply ignore the pain.JMeganSnow said:...I fail to see how going around getting shot at a lot and completing a bunch of quests means you can get shot more times without dying.
Yes, yes, yes. But I've yet to see anyone successfully parry an arrow, and most systems contain an additional mechanic for dodge/parry/armor/damage reduction.LucanDesmond said:It helps to remember that actually combat doesn't look like FF or WOW. People don't just stand there taking turns smacking each other. It's a little less believable with guns since it really doesn't take many bullets to kill, or seriously disable, a person. That's just when you have to remember that, in games, reality should ALWAYS come second to FUN.
Oh and I like Fable 2's leveling system. SPECIAL is good too. But I'll always be partial to DnD.

Hit points mean two things in the game world: the ability to take physical punishment and keep going, and the ability to turn a serious blow into a less serious one. For some characters, hit points may represent divine favor or inner power. When a paladin survives a fireball, you will be hard pressed to convince bystanders that she doesn't have the favor of some higher power
Put simply, thats why I said this:JMeganSnow said:Yes, yes, yes. But I've yet to see anyone successfully parry an arrow, and most systems contain an additional mechanic for dodge/parry/armor/damage reduction.
