Mine is both Unlogical but possible.
I believe that a viral mutation will mutate human brains into a new organ that reverts man kind back to there's primative state dumber then a roach. The only thing they want is human flesh. Zombies indeed escape from a military research base and infect an urban city. The Outbreak then spreads world wide. A class 4 outbreak means the Zombies are dominate on the planet and those alive struggle to survive.
It is possible to happen but unlikely then again, America's couldn't have been dumb enough to re elect Bush and look how that turned out. Just saying I would love to fight Zombies... In a sexy dress.

I find the most interesting apocalypse scenario's are things like Nausicaa (the world becomes a giant, toxic jungle) or Future Boy Conan (Everything is covered in water, thank too nuclear war) where an apocalyptic war changes the worlds ecology.

I'd go with a Fascist/Totalitarian/Similar Empire taking over. Nobody wants one. It would be a constant civil war until nothing is left but the atomised remains of the last few fighters. After all, if a totalitarian empire took over EVERYTHING it would be impossible to get them out. It would also be impossible for them to keep control. Eventually this mad paradox would wipe everyone out. Or at least leave too little survivors to repopulate.
