I'll probably start with a human ele and/or a sylvari necro...at least based on what we've seen so far.

however, long live the mesmer!

While I never played GW1, but GW2 is one of the few games coming out that I'm genuinely hyped about (although now that Rayman: O is out, it could be the only one). I personally love playing Meaty chars who get up in people's faces so I'm going to open with an Asura Warrior for maximum style points, but I will probably have a Ranger alt.

I'd have to say mesmer even though we don't know anything about it, just because I know it's going to be stylin'. I always play the most fabulous classes in MMOs.

I'm also planning on playing a thief, engineer, elementalist, and ranger, though, and I'm pretty much equally excited about all of them.

without beta i cannot say. Never played GW1 so have no knowledge of GW classes but i've seen enough of it to spark my interest to try it out when it's released or OBT is available.

Did they announce mesmers? I don't think I saw that in my GW2 newsfeed. God, those guys were/are ridiculous in PvP.

And Elementalist, my favorite. My main in GW1 is one, and shall remain in GW2. I'll probably have a Guardian as well.
No, they haven't. But most of the evidence says the 8th is the Mesmer. We'll know before the end of the year.
They took hexes out of the game, so how would a mesmer work really? I mean I get inturupts, but what else is left?

Personally I can't wait to be a warrior.

They took the Hex mechanic (special debuffs applied by one and only one skill) out of the game, as well as interrupts as the only effect of a skill (replaced with disruptive Conditions like Stun and Daze). But the spirit behind them, weakening or punishing foes for acting (or not acting), is still very much alive. In fact, GW2Guru [http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/mesmer-t7765.html] has a thread almost 500 pages long on the subject... and more than half of it is actually good! heh.

Like I said. We'll see soon enough. There's only, what, 5 weeks left in the year? and one of those should contain the closed beta announcement.

Give a man a fish he can feed himself for a meal, give a man a 500 page thread he can read for a lifetime. Or until he gets bored.

Punishing people for actions, such as empathy? Hmm how would they do that with a condition? I suppose i'll have to look it up.

The closest thing to a healer I can find.

Seriously, I'm so excited for this game, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself.
The guardian class is supposed to be the replacement for the Monk class which was the healer before though they are trying to do away with the healer-tank-dps triangle and have each person be all 3.

You'll want to take good, long looks at the Elementalist, Engineer, and Guardian (also Necromancer, to an extent. it's a great support profession but not really "heals" per se.). But remember, you can't just stay in the back and heal in GW2. Your heals won't be strong enough alone, and without your help on offense AND defense, the party might not win the more advanced encounters. Fortunately, all three (and every profession, really) can switch roles with the push of a button... and switching around is actually really fun.

If anyone's interested, the French fansite Luna-Atra created a "skills tool [http://gw2.luna-atra.fr/skills_tool/?lang=en]" to play with (in both French and English). With it, you can get a general feel for what the professions might do. Naturally, none of the skills or numbers are set in stone (or fully up-to-date), but it's fun anyway.

The idea is that it will be either a counterattack "stance"/summoned "pet" (like a Trap Card from YuGiOh), or a ground-targeted area effect causing damage or something every time a skill is used inside it.

Again, we can't be sure until we know.

Believe me, I've been looking! Elementalist is usually my 2nd character type. But from the looks of it, Guardian is about as close as I can get to being a "healer"-type.

And thanks to that Skills Tool you shared, I got to poke through some of the Guardian's skills. They sound a lot more supportive then the video of the class lets on. I wouldn't mind being a protector..help people before they get hurt and try to lessen how much they get hurt...What an odd way to think...

I play warrior as my first character in any game. It's my favorite. I like to duel wield weapons instead of sword and board but I'm a competent tank.
