Plasma, all the way. It has so many uses. Lightning, magnetization, light sources, heating, light(such as auroras), supernovas, etc.

That OR just lightning if we HAVE to pick a simple element. =P

Earth. I'd imagine it to be like the guy from Greek mythology who, as long as he touched the earth, had strength that none could match.

Also, imagine being able to create a hole in the ground and bury your enemies instantly.

I'd have to say water, since that's my element (in astrology) and it's the best when you think about it. It's as difficult to hit as air but can be even more solid than rock. Besides that, it's the strongest natural force on the Earth. Although I'm kind of a fan of all of them.

Darkness

Its a reason that in my story "Gray Horizons" one of the places the charachters hide is called "Darkhaen Hollow" a place where "shadows wreathed a spell over the land and hid it completely from sight, a dark scar on the earth's surface." becuase darkness hides stuff. And whats better than hiding and waiting for the right time to stab the bad guy in the back. Well, fireballs are cool too but I HAVE CHOSEN! cant turn my back now.
