As a British man, I'm obliged to pick the best one.

Considering how Britain is a small island nation, at one point she ruled a massive portion od the world, very admirable, if you forget about all that entails...
You seem to forget that this man:

Is a Brit.

But in all seriousness, from what I know, our empire was the most impressive. Quarter of the globe under the control of a small island? Put that in your pipe and smoke the sexual metaphor.

I'm obligated to select the British. If the Roman was on the list, I'd have chosen them but alas, it isn't.

But the British empire was pretty damn impressive. For a tiny little island, for us to control, at one point, what had to be most of the known world...that's pretty damn cool.

You know, if you forget that empires and world domination are invariably bad things for everyone who doesn't live in the original country.

Most importantly, where's the Galactic Empire? None of the empires listed had Death Stars.
Dammit, ninja'd! XD That is exactly what I thought at first.

Seriously, though, probably the British Empire because it was so large and relied one of the most powerful navies. Well, they had to, being such a sorry lot of tiny islands. ;)

My favorite empire is The Black Sun Empire.

And more seriously, I like British Empire from the colonial times.

British Empire out of those -- think of the size of Britain -- it's absolutely tiny, and yet created the biggest empire that has ever existed!

Next would have to be the Romans though -- their military strategy and ridiculous level of civilisation compared to the rest of the world is inspiring.

The British Empire, because firstly I am British, and secondly it's objectively pretty impressive for a tiny island to rule a quarter of the world. Still prefer the aesthetic and the culture of the Pax Romana, however.

Where's the roman?
Too small to make the cut, at a mere 2.2m sq miles! ¬_¬

There's gonna be a lot of these comments, isn't there?
Yes. Many.
I wanted to vote for the Byzantine Empire, but alas, it's not even technically an empire :p
I too wanted to vote Byzantine Empire...

But since i cant i guess my vote goes to the Mongolian empire since i am "mongoloid" myself.

The Spanish Empire.

They brought civilization, Christianity, and order to South America (at a greater rate than what was previously there) and without their chapter in history we wouldn't have a United States of America. Their impact upon the world is one of the greatest achievements known to man.

Despite the difference, one could say that the "Arab" and "Ottoman" empires need to be combined. Not to mention that their conquest of the Iberian Peninsula and their attempt to invade Europe is one of the most horrific chapters of humanity ever entered into the books.

Love the story of the Reconquista. It's one of the most beautiful rebellions and battles throughout human history that have a truly good ending.

As a ouiaboo, I'm obliged to pick the French Empire.

The Arab Caliphate, Maurya Dynasty under Ashoka, Sassanid Dynasty, and the Mughal Empire are all cool too.

Holy Roman; they had the coolest flag!

In all seriousness, I can't really pick one, and I'm not sure I want to. Imperialism has led to some quite disturbing things in the past.

The Mongols were the only people in history to successfully invade Russia (even then, they only were able to make it a puppet-state).

I admire the empire of Alexander the great because he built that empire alone. Macedonia was relatively small until he began conquering the surrounding region, and he accumulated a huge amount of land not only alone, but in an amazingly short period of time. He was only 28 or something when he died. Mongolia was relatively large when Genghis Khan took control, he just expanded it, and then Kublai Khan conquered Chinese lands, although his empire was smaller total because he had less land to the west.
