No companion. It's the way I did it in fallout 3, and the way I prefer it in new vegas. Although their banter isn't NEARLY as bad as Dragons Dogma, it still gets on the nerves.

I'm just a lone wanderer, killing every raider that crosses my path.

Veronica, always; she's easy to recruit, gets me in with the dudes with the laser guns, and ignores enemy armor with that massive fist of hers. She's also genuinely easy to like/sympathize with, and has a very beneficial questline.

Cass has to be my least favorite; she's difficult to get, her quest pretty much requires killing the other dudes that sell laser guns, she uses a goddamn shotgun for a range weapon, and thinks that I'm the post-apocalyptic version of Hitler just because I'll take anything that isn't nailed down.

They're all great, and infinitely better than any Fallout 3 companion.

They have dimension, conflict, what with being actual characters instead of just pack mules with guns.

Shit, I would run through Boone's entire dialogue tree every morning if I could.

ED-E. The battle music is so quirky.
Especially if you've played Lonesome Road. RALPHIE! Fly far, fly fast!

More love to the ED-E, he was the most 'meh' to me until that DLC.
Yeah! For me, ED-E was just fun to have around, although it was sad when I got him fixed and the stickers were gone.

Arcade Gannon, funny, intelligent and with an excellent backstory and very satisfying conclusion to his quest if you fully complete it. Plus he's one of the best written gay characters I've seen in a game, if only more writers realised that being gay is just an aspect of a person it isn't their whole person.

Boone was fun, and augmented my fighting style (Shoot from 2 or 3 maps away and never get seen), but as soon as I found him Gannon became my favourite. Most interesting to talk to certainly; and he wouldn't reveal my position while sniping.
Not sure why but Veronica always annoyed me.

Cass, because whiskey and shotguns. Veronica's a close second, though. Not only is she voiced by Felicia Day, but also, "What about punching? It's the gift that keeps on giving!"

For my money ED-E for sheer lethality. For companions who actually Talk, Veroinca and Cassidy are funny, quippy, and feel slightly more developed.

Arcade isn't so bad provided:

--you plan on being the sterotypical "Good Guy"
--you use a walkthrough to get through his whole story without locking the quest by accident
--you don't mind academic speeches with your gunfights
--you aren't playng the game on harcore mode - he dies a lot.

Forget companions, my best friend was the Sneaky Stealth Suit from Old World Blues. :p
He has a point, her and your brain are your best friends in the game. Yeah that conversation near the end was kind of weird, funny but weird.

On topic I almost always have Veronica with me.

Boone is absurdly effective, but Raul is Danny Trejo... Ahhh, decisions! I think I'll go with Boone.

It's got to be Whiskey Rose. This game taught me that if you want to avoid negative health effects for alcohol dependency, get an alcoholic friend.
Depends on the character. Whiskey Rose is the best companion perk in the game for a melee or unarmed character, imo. With enough survival, you gain 21 DT by downing a whiskey, wasteland tequila, and a large wasteland tequila. Yeah, those all stack. Cass was invaluable to my first character, since I was light armored and unarmed. Two Deathclaws instead of the one I was after? Time to get drunk.

Arcade Gannon all the way. Loved that gay hero of the wastes, I was sad when I did the endings where he died or committed suicide.

ED-E

So cheerful, and I modded him to play different sounds when attacking as well as be a radio.
