GLaDOS is a great character but I think in Portal 2 she's the weakest character of the three. It's really hard for me to decide between Wheatley and Cave Johnson. Wheatley is such a...lovable backstabber and Cave Johnson is simply awesome but I think that the lemon rant wins.

Wheatley, I really liked him. He was cynical, subjective, funny, timid, stupid, lighthearted, and pure awesome.

If I could pick 2, Chell'd come 2nd.
For a character who doesn't talk, she's got a lot of backstory.
We learn that she was one of the smartest people at her school.
We learn that her parents abondoned her.
We learn that she was taken to the Apaerture Science "Bring your daughter to Work day" by her
foster mother.

And much much more stuff I haven't mentioned 'cause I don't want to spoil it.
She's backed up by a shit-ton of personality, which makes her impossible not to like.

Definitely Wheatley. GLaDOS and Cave Johnson were both hysterical throughout the game. But Wheatley... well I'll just let a poster above explain for me.

I really, really have trouble choosing since all 3 of them are so awesome... I'm going to go with Wheatley because his neurotic tendencies and friendly but unstable nature are just so endearing to me. But I love all three of them.

Cave Johnson.
That charismatic bastard makes me want a Portal prequel just so I can hear more from him.

Whenever I see or hear JK Simmons I associate him with Schillinger, the neo-nazi he played in Oz, which is about as uncomedic a role as you can get, but he's absolutely brilliant as Cave Johnson.

In most other games any of the 3 leads would steal the show, but I'll go with GlaDOS. Then Cave, then Wheatley (who was funny but occassionally his stuff just went on a smidgeon too long...)

And an honorable mention for the defective turrets.

A few favourite lines there, but in spite of that I'd say I admire Chell the most. She survived a lethal dose of neurotoxin, then years later managed to single-handedly complete dozens of tests that would make a health and safety officer cry, and eliminated a homocidal, near-omnipotent artificial intellgience. Then, she survived a massive explosion of some kind, and was dragged back into the damn place.

Following all this, she awoke with brain damage hundreds of years later... and just got over it, like a boss. And somehow managed to become more attractive in the process.

Then she solved a fucktonne of puzzles, many of which weren't even meant to be solvable, resisted toxins and radiation from otherwise deadly substances, defeated TWO uber-powerful intelligences, survived a suitless voyage to the Moon, and was deemed worthy of a whole turret opera.

Win.

I'm saying the Fact Core!
"In Greek myth, Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to human kind. The jewelry, he kept for himself."
"The Schrodinger's Cat Paradox outlines the situation in which a cat in a box must be considered, for all intents and purposes, simultaneously alive and dead. Schrodinger created this paradox as a justification for killing cats."
"Cellular phones do NOT give you brain cancer. Only hepatitis."

I never really connected with Cave Johnson. He was funny maybe 50% of the time, all the others were around 99%. So still good, just not good enough. I also thought space core was the least funny core, fact core wins for me. I never thought anyone could beat GLaDOS, but I have to give it to Wheatly. Probably the best voice-over I've ever heard, and perfectly animated as well. I don't even have to mention the script. And special mention to the defective turret, but there's just too little of him to win.

Either Cave Johnson or Space Core. They are awesome. Also I just beat it so I can answer this thread.

I applaud you for not putting Chell as a character. After the mute with no personality, Gordon Freeman, has won the 'best character' award on GameSpot, everything is possible with Valve fansheep.
While I agree Gordon Freeman is FAR from the "best character" calling silent protagonists non characters is a bit closed minded. It's like saying Mutes arn't real people.

We don't know what Chell thinks but can use her actions to tell us some things about herself. She determinded. She's smart enough to solve puzzles. She's strong minded as while we see the crazy drawings of Rattman all over the facility Chell doesn't at any point go insane, at least not to a certain point. We even know quite a bit about her history; her name is on that giant potatoe plant in the day care centre in Portal 2 for instance.

FYI I'd say Samus is a better character before she could talk as just an example.

But yeah, since there's so many brilliantly written characters in Portal 2 I don't think she needs her own option.
