Blazblue.

I'm shit at it, but that doesn't matter when I can tear 2/3 of your health in a single Distortion Drive with Tager. And yes, I magnetize first.

GTA IV! Wait, that isn't a fighting game....GTA IV!

See, I'm a gamer. I love first person beat-crap-out-of game(s) like, say, Mirror's Edge.
I really love FPSs[footnote]I'm an American male, what the fuck do you think my favorite genre is, eh?[/footnote], and I love RPGs.
I hate JRPGs, I really like racing games.
But I never really liked fighting games.
The only[footnote]Questionable[/footnote] fighting games I ever liked were the Smash Bros. series, and Dungeon Fighter Online; and that's only because one of the characters was a badass with guns, in a red trench coat.
Which is probably why GTA IV is my favorite game of all time, it combines my three favorite games: I actually can't think of a third person shooter that I actually LIKED, so I'll just put an example of a third person shooter off the top of my head: Uncharted, because of all of the shooting. Need For Speed, because of the driving that needs done, and the actual racing option in multiplayer, and with Brucie. And Bethesda RPGs, because I get to play as a[footnote]Serbian[/footnote][footnote]He was Serbian, right? Fuck, I don't remember. 'least I didn't say he was Russian, I know that's wrong.[/footnote] dick!

Besides, you can punch people in the game...And kick them. And shove them to the floor. And slit that ***** up. And beat that NOoSE agent up with a baseball bat. And throw them out of their car, and stand on them laughing as they are unable to get back up.

Man, most Nikos are pricks.

Yeye you got me there - the explanation for [1] was completely unnecessary....

[1] I am a German Woman... omg Id kick your ass anytime everywhere.... (hihihihi)
lol German woman who will kick your ass... sounds like Hitomi from Dead or Alive.

What's your favorite fighting game series?

Soul Cal is tops for me, for now.
I'm pretty pissed Guilty Gear's not there, purely for it's soul crushing difficulty, but out of those I'd have to agree with you. i love the soul caibur franchise.

Your lack of Guilty Gear disturbs me. That is the best fighting game series hands down, it's essentially Street Fighter on crack and cranked up to 11. SO much depth, such amazing combat, kick ass characters and music, it's a massive bundle of AWESOME.

It trumps every other 2D fighter in my opinion.
Quoted for Truth. The music is amazing particularily. My one point of contention with your post is I prefer XX.
Hehe Sorry, never much of a 2d fighter fan... (weep) because i suck at them. i need that 3rd dimension to side step attacks and counter.

I'm going to say it again, I find it really amusing that the actual competitive fighting games aren't at the top of the list on here, but I guess that makes sense because from what I can tell from the Escapist, we don't have much of a fighting game scene here.

lol sure you can, Kings unstoppable grab combo, THAT is pretty wrong. good game though.
Hahaha. Recently replaying Tekken 2, all I have to say is this: Kazuya's instant kill combo. If you have taken even the slightest damage and get hit by that, you're dead. And it's a ***** to block all the attacks :/

Soul Calibur. I used to play a little bit of DOA but by far, Soul Calibur is the fighting game I play the most and am the best at.

Yeah, I don't think many of the members here are really into fighters. Eh, it's not like it's anyone's fault anyway.

Also, I think it's safe to say that the majority of the 'other' votes are for Guilty Gear/Blazblue?

I'd say more of those 'other' votes are Smash Bros given the responses. GG and BB are more obscure and 'hard core' so their following isn't as large.

A shame that fighters aren't as popular compared to other genres, and it's an even bigger shame the tournament level fighters(aside from SF that is) aren't as popular. They are far more satisfying than the more 'accessible' ones where you can just faff about *glares at smash bros*.

Yeah, you're probably right. Guilty Gear had a particularly steep learning curve, so it's probably more of a 'cult classic' than a popular game. Blazblue's learning curve isn't as steep though.

Well, I have Smash Bros, I didn't really see what the fuss was about. Good party game though.

I dunno if I'm just naturally a good learner or something, but I didn't find the learning curve to be that steep. It's a deceptively simple game and the controls are so tight that its hardly a big endeavor to learn. Even knowing only the basics you can have boat loads of fun and hold your own. Now learning advanced stuff can be tough, but I found the natural progression of learning/playing it to be very well done. It just all becomes second nature after a while.

Hell I had a harder time trying to play Soul Calibur than I ever did GG. Then again I'm not one to button mash. I was never too big of SB myself, to me it just seems like the fighting game for people who don't play fighting games.

Same here, I didn't find it super hard to get into, but other people obviously did. I thought it was one of those games which is 'easy to learn, hard to master'. If anything, Street Fighter is harder to learn once you find out that spamming hadoukens will only get you pummelled.
