My first thought was: "wow that spear is gonna bounce of the power armor and MC is gonna cut him in half."

"Those unarmored movie spartan twats are completely out classed. Energy swords have a habit of pwning bare flesh and, I assume, wooden shields and spears."

300, though a mildly amusing testoste-romp, infuriated me. I know it's very nitpicky, but hoplites (athenian, spartan, et al. ) were some of the most heavily (and best) armed and armoured soldiers in the ancient world. In my humble opinion they LOOK a lot better armored than not. Why would you ignore the lamellar and bronze cuirasses that is so indicative of the greek warrior in favor of a...loincloth diaper?

Anyway, /rambling rant. Sorry for the digression. In short: Guns and lazors > spears and shields.
I assume that they gave them that look to make them seem more... vicious. When you cover something in armor, it may look intimidating, but subconsiously, you realize that whatever is under there is a logical being.

But with that minimalist design, they look much more savage, and violent in nature. You look and them, and you realize that there is no reasoning with them. You can't talk your way out of that fight. You're going to die.

It's the exact same design pricipal that went into designing Kratos.

I didn't really think anything specific, but it was a general idea of it being silly dullness. And then I realized where it came from (that artstyle is damn recognizable), and I wasn't all that surprised why that was my reaction.

I guess that it wasn't my cup of ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny]

THIS IS SPARTA!
THIS...IS...POINTLESS!!! :D
Very pointless, I get the whole Sparta VS Sparta thing but this just proves that Bungie isn't original enough to come up with their own name so instead call it some that existed in history.
Next, Bungie might think of bringing in a rebel defences army and calling it the Mafia.

Point well made and understood, sera. I almost can't write this without sounding sarcastic, but really, thanks for the input. I've always wondered why people do that kind of thing. Maybe it's just so against my nature to go into battle without a few plates of steel between you and the things that kill you. I'm not wired to not give a damn. :p

My first thought was "Heh. The Spartans lost the war in the end."

Think that one over for a bit.
