Console for FPS and RPGs
Do you find RPGs easier to play on the console than on a PC? How so? [No irony/sarcasm intended]

I am asking because I am genuinely interested. I mean, I can understand FPSs and platformers, where it is by far easier to use a controller but with an RPG, you have quite a lot of actions to handle, skill trees and generally a consistent inventory...

I only ever played RPGs on a PC so I am actually curious how RPGs play out on consoles.

EDIT: On topic - I prefer the PC, but I think this is connected to my preferred types of games.

PC master race reporting in. Just prefer mouse & keyboard above a controller.

Also, Gameboy SP rarely for long trips or something.

FPS' like Battlefield 3 and shiz: PC

What's with all of the consoles versus PC debate lately (yes I realize you've added handhelds but I guarantee this will become a PC Versus Console thread)?
What confuses me here is how OP has Consoles and Handhelds as their own category...The tone (in the first sentence) seemed to suggest that OP meant mobile gaming (ie: iOS/Droid games).

Anyway I prefer console gaming switching back and forth between my home and portable consoles. I have the means to play GBA games but I'm shopping around for an SP so as to get back into Pokemon Red and look into Game Boy games I missed out on as a child.

When it comes to computer gaming, the closest I've ever done is playing Wolfenstein as an 8 year old on a friend's computer and, Beneath a Steel Sky last year when I found out that GoG was giving it out for free and my laptop is somehow able to run it. I'm a simple man who isn't technically proficient though so for the most part PC gaming is beyond my grasp.

As for mobile gaming, I only got a droid a few months ago and I've been really reluctant to drop any money in what I see as a temporary file: Once I get a new phone I'm likely losing all of my data so why bother buying games when I can download free versions of those same games? Sure there are some games that appeal to me but Final Fantasy and Minecraft can be grabbed from other providers (ironically my computer can't satisfactorily run Minecraft)

PC gamer here. I used to crave PS 1 back when it was new but i could not afford it or rather my parents could not. Now i have a PC and that satisfies all my gaming needs plus you some games like flight simulators (hardcore ones not Ace Combat) are not on consoles and also there is another thing that Sony and MS do not consider my country relevant enough to make XBox live or PSN available in it. So yeah PC gaming is the most convenient option for me.

I PC game mostly, I have a 360 and a Wii and I only ever use them for split screen multiplayer. I heard Genell (Escapist community manager)say on the Podcast about a year ago that the Escapist has an overwhelmingly PC based reader-ship.

With this in mind I've always felt it strange that the articles and reviews tend to have a very heavily console based bias, as if it's assumed that we're all console gamers, even though the evidence points the other way.

Is this perceived bias just in my head or has anyone else noticed it?

I was a console fanboy for years, until my tastes in games changed (specifically, to hard games like Super Meat Boy) and forced me to dip into the PC world. I still play my consoles, but thanks to emulation, my platform of choice is easily... well, it's a Mac laptop, but you get the idea, right?

I have a decent PC, PS3, Vita, and DS. DS for Ace Attorney and Pokemon. Vita for Persona 4 and a few others. PS3 for all their great exclusives and Netflix. PC for MMOs and simulators. No sense in a war. Get a PC AND a console.

So yeah, while they don't all belong to me specifically, I have the ability in my house to play pretty much anything. Well, the laptop isn't great for gaming particularly but it plays Football Manager well enough and that's all I particularly care about for the moment. I do also own a 3DS as well that I've been playing more than usual recently.

Hahahah stay deluded, I wouldn't trade my pc for what you have, stay pleb son.

Good for you...? Apparently I'm a pleb for wanting more than just PC games. I'm sorry that me not deciding to be part of the "PC Master Race" makes you believe that I'm deluded.

But you keep believing that only having one platform to play games on somehow makes you superior to everyone else. And you call me deluded...

I'm more of a hybrid gamer that isn't blocked merely by format since there's games I want from consoles and a few from handhelds and PC.

At the end of the day power isn't what I want from gaming it's fun I mainly want.

Your a pleb for being so narrow minded on your gaming platforms, I pity you I really do.

Also, who gives a crap if he has a laptop, from what I've experience, the best PC games are ten to fifteen years old (Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Age of Empires 2, Rome: Total War, Civ 4 Ect), and they can run on laptops just fine.

That's why GOG is so popular.

I do the PC thing, console thing and handheld thing.

Basically, if it has enough (exclusive) games to warrant a purchase from me, then I will purchase it. I currently own a PlayStation/2/3/Portable, GameBoy Advance SP, DS Lite and a 3DS. I plan to get the PS4, and a Vita when/if its library starts showing promise.

I don't have a 360 'cause I don't play Halo or Gears of War. And I don't have Nintendo consoles because... outside of the first party titles (which, let's be honest, are more-or-less the same game with new names), there isn't a whole lot going for them post-Gamecube. (I missed out on the Gamecube because I was PS2kid and even then didn't get many games.)

It's rather hard to explain but the easiest way would be to say I just prefer a controller to a keyboard or mouse. Easy to use. Sure RPGS have mods, cheats, and many other features on PC, I will always buy the game first on a console and wait until a game of the year edition makes a release and pick it up for computer.

To how they play it's quite the same unless your playing Dragon Age Origins which goes from a KOTOR clone on the console to a strategy game on the pc. Mass Effect and Bethesda's games play pretty much the same. And on a last thought for consoles some strategy is blown clear out the window because of the limit buttons.

Console. I don't play handheld games that much and I don't have a PC that can play video games or even a Steam account.

I would really like to get into PC gaming some day, though.

I play all 3, but each has a situation is does better than the other 2 in and i use all 3 in their respective situations.

Have to wait 20 minutes before your next something, whip out the handheld

Going to a friends house to play games all night, throw the console in a backpack, grab the monitor and away u go

Sitting in your room drinking beer wanting to do some serious gaming(which is mostly rts/mmos for me xD) pc ur only option

PC since forever, but would quite like to switch to consoles when they get powerful enough (upcoming generation of consoles looks like it might be the right time for me to switch).

I went neutral response as I own a PC, 360 and PS3. I play the consoles for exclusives (or games that I think would lend better to the console) and the PC for everything else. I am 100% happy with all three of them, even if my 360 hasn't seen significant use in a few months.
