Ah, I'd kill myself.

It'd be awesome to be the only human...for the whole week or so. Maybe less. Then everything becomes boring, there's no one to talk to, no one to play with, no one to make games, no one to make food I love, no one to pick up my trash...

What if you let everyone die but you yourself are pregnant? Just hope for a boy, then attempt repopulation and hope to God you don't go through menopause before he can become father to imbred children.
That wouldn't work... the human race would go extinct anyway...
But just pretend you aren't pregnant. This topic isn't about finding flaws in my statement it's about finding how much people value their own life vs. the life of others.

If you choose to kill the rest of the human race, nobody will be left but you.
That'd be boring.

But I'd make sure I'd be remembered for it.
And if I get a week to chose, I'd make sure to live life like never before in that single week.

You have to! There is no choice. The magic is forcing you to think that there is no time for some reason, don't ask how this happens :/
Or you could say that everyone dies.
If everybody else dies, then that would include whoever is controlling the "magic". Why would they willingly kill themselves and everyone else - but not me?

If everyone dies, then that's the same as me dying, because when I'm dead I've got no guarantee that the rest of humanity will be kept alive (and, give that we're assuming atheism here, I've got no way of looking down from my cloud in heaven and verifying this) so they may as well die, I mean... you know, whatever.

He didn't bring religion into it. He simply wants to even the playing field for people like me who believe in an afterlife, as opposed to those who don't. Relevant qualifier.

Anyway.
1) I choose not to push any buttons. End of argument.
2) I choose to die, rather than live a lonely sexless existence going back to cavemen times. (No pumping stations, electricity, internet, etc. On the one hand, I'm prepared to survive through an apocalypse, but I wouldn't choose an apocalypse. It'd be silly.

Even from a strictly logical perspective, more genetics live on in my family than me being unable to procreate. Choosing to live is not the same as choosing not to die. All I'd be doing is shortening my lifespan by ~40 years, vs extinction of my species.

Darwin says choose humanity.

Probably myself. Everyone In my town is incredibly stupid, but I know there are smarter people elsewhere in the world, and they'd do a lot more good for a world of morons then I would for a world inhabited by me alone.

Then again, why should I have to press either button? Can't I just say "fuck it" and walk away?

My argument isn't actually myself > or or < 0, whether the human race is all-in-all a positive force in the Universe.

If I felt that the human race was worth saving, I would sacrifice myself, if not then no.

I would off myself... Mainly because of all of the reasons already listed.

(Currently there are 8 self-righteous assholes who voted on this thread. :p Just thought I'd throw that in there)

If I kill everyone else, I would have that on my mind EVERY second.
If I kill myself, I would never be able to think about it because I would be dead.
I'm not really seeing a decision here.

Humanity is on its way to destroy itself anyways. :3

Honestly killing everyone else is stupid. Who would make all my favorite Video Games and my family would be dead with me responsible... Who could live with that?

Basically this.

I doubt I could sacrifice myself for everyone else, I hold most of my fellow humans in contempt anyway. But, on the other hand, being alone would probably suck, so I would probably not press anything. Or something like that.

So my options are die, or live a rather short, lonely, boring life all the while struggling for survival.

No contest, I'd sacrifice myself:

1) Then all my family / friends / people I admire / adorable children would survive
2) All of the progress of the human race wouldn't be lost
3) Also, life without any other humans would be incredibly sucky

No-one is controlling the magic - it is born of nature. I suggest you don't worry about this sort of thing and pretend my situation has no flaws... ie. the situation is DEFINITELY TRUE, and somehow verifiable.

There is a reason there is no option for not pressing any button. You could say that if you don't press any button there is some sort of magical super torture that you can't resist.
I'm trying to keep the explanation open because it doesn't really matter.

What the fuck are we supposed to do after we kill the whole human race? If I could save a small handful of people then I might consider that option but as it is, I will just kill myself since my life would be completely worthless without anyone else around. Seriously, where's the incentive for this option?
