A group with good intentions and ideals, but they sometimes take it too far.

But for a group that is so loosely united, has no actual rules, and no true leader, they are surprisingly tame. You would expect a bunch of energetic 17-25 year olds that can basically do whatever they want on the internet to be completely out of control, and sometimes they are, but for the most part, it's either absurd, ridiculous, comedic speech and memes, mostly harmless internet pranks, and a few actual well managed political and social movements. I think there is great value to be found in something like this.

What I find most fascinating about 4Chan, anonymous, ect. is how widespread their culture and sort of collective conscious is. I think it goes to show that culture and ideas have far more influence then you would expect, and I think there is much potential for good here. Imagine if the general attitude of anonymous evolved more into a more mature, responsible one, while still retaining the good values they have.
I think anonymous could be a political force for the logical, independent people.

They're the true face of what humanity becomes when the lights go off. A negative evaluation of them is a negative evaluation of yourself as a human being.

Well when it comes to anonymous I Categorise them into 2 groups;
New Anonymous, these are the 4chantards, they are likely to hack a website and fill it with mudkips or something.
Old Anonymous, they'll hack a website to prove a message about what ever they like.

The two groups are likely to get mixed up as all it takes is a leaking of a plan to 4chan and we have a hard to pick out group of New and Old Anonymous.
Any ways to my opinion.

New Anonymous, I despise. Their idiocy when it comes to the internet is what is going to cause huge problems for the internet. an example of 'New's work is the Oprah thing where they told her that hey have "over nine thousand penises" in children or something.
'Old' however I have a completely different opinion on, 'Old' stands for something that is righteous and that's free speech, However I think that they should of;
A. Stuck to one task at a time
B. Don't get 'New' involved
'Old' is a very powerful group and their name is also a prize to some, this is why 'New' has come to use 'Old' name as a 'emblem' to gain fear into others. my general opinion of 'Old' is negative due to the attention stirring they have caused, i'm with 'Old' against Scientology, but that's where it ends

The 4chantard version of anon = Bad
The 'Old' Anon = good only for the vs Scientology part

Anon is hard to explain, they tend to have a strong self image of themselves when they are really more of a collective of elitist nerds. (Most I've met are elitist in at least one way) They're not really good or bad either, they just do what the majority deem right or wrong. They also like what the majority like, that's how all the 4chan memes have started.

Alright. I can't fault you for not doing the research when your source was the wrong party.
Though, to be fair "moralfags" tend to advertise themselves as being Anon, when they're really just exploiting the name.
Ugh, get off your high horse.

These days, everyone is labelled, and every one of those is told are "exploiting the name".

And believe me, I've seen people on /b/ say the guys who went up against Scientology were all "newfags" too. It's all a mixed bag, really, and everyone believes whatever they want, thus it's really hard to make a distinction between the different groups.

Judging the whole of anon as a whole is a mistake.
That's true; there are distinctions to be made.

That's interesting; does anyone think they will ever actually organize into an independent political party or something like that?

Anonymous is more than just loud mouthing adults. It is a collective of everyone from every walk of life possible. The man who bags your groceries, the one who takes out the trash, your underlings, your bosses, the woman you see in the coffee shop, and the man you pass in the laundromat, they are all Anonymous. Everyone has a chance to stand together and make something more then what you could alone, where you are not bound by the confines of society and are free to do as you will. Where opinions can be swayed and judgment is passed.

They are humanity at both it's finest and it's worst.

They are the closest we'll ever get to having a group of people interacting without being constrained by social norms, bias, or political correctness.

They are simultaneously an embarrassment of the internet and a symbol of internet freedom.

A fraction of them are very malicious, the rest just do what happens to be popular or for the lulz.

I personally loathe their existence but will passively fight for their right to continue existing.

[sub][sub]I consider them a necessary evil. Education about them is key to keeping people from falling under the influence the dark side of the internet.[/sub][/sub]

Well, really, what is "Anonymous".

Anonymous is not a person, nor a body of different people grouped under the same belief, race, creed, or national or moral standing.

Anonymous is a widespread body of different people, all believing different things and acting in different ways. By that respect, what am I to say when I'm asked "What do I think of Anonymous"?

Some of their users really annoy me, with childish pranks used only for "Lulz". Other hacks and pranks of theirs you just have to respect, and other causes I can get behind, such as the Gene Simmons debate and the whole "Internet Censorship" deal.

They are people
They are losers
They are winners
They are geniuses
They are idiots

Anonymous are just people. They are society without all the media bullshit and social rules on top

i think anonymous is just a bunch of nobodies who think they can make change. They are not anonymous and we all know they are actually usually failures in life because of their goals that were never reached. I don't think they are anarchists or Vigilantes or anything like that. Just a bunch of people with to much time on their hands who think they can inspire change.
And yet, they're good enough to find a woman in Slovakia and get her arrested based solely on a low-resolution video of chucking puppies into a river.
I think you lose this round. Anon can do shitloads if they really put their mind to it.
