I've had a beard since I was 16, and I can't say I've ever hit a length where it got itchy. If anything, it's more likely to be itchy right after shaving it clean off than it is after growing it out. It can, however, get long enough that it's actually painful to rest my head on my chin, because it puts too much pressure on the hair follicles. At that point I'm way overdue for a trim.

It can also rub against the lower part of the neck and give me ugly red patches if I let it get out of control enough to turn into a neckbeard. So I shave the parts that I don't want beard on daily, and trim the whole thing back about once a month.

I fully agree with that.

but I also hate shaving.
And I agree with that, too. I compromise by shaving every 2-3 days so I have something like a 5 o'clock shadow. Or something - I'm not really sure if it qualifies for a stubble as I usually imagine a stubble being slightly bigger than what I tolerate. I also like scratching my hand on my beard - so soothing. If I get a longer beard it just tickles and it's annoying.
With you on that... except that I only shave once a week...

Still, I'm Chinese... so any facial hair is generally going to look shit, though I do five-o'clock shadow OK (which for me, typically takes about two days to grow... >_> ... <_< ...). Facial hair on most Oriental people looks crap unless it's those really long and thin beards that old fogeys have... -_-

One of my friends should really shave his beard. Doesn't suit him. Makes him look a bit like he's homeless or something. Another friend looks more mature with his beard and it suits him well. It's a person to person basis really.

No doubt that proper grooming is important and that facial hair looks better on some men rather than others but there are some people who are a bit more passionate about it than you or I?
Just giving my opinion is all. From the standpoint of a geeky girl, I really couldn't care less if the guy has facial hair or not, as long as he sports it well. I'm sure there are people who are more passionate about it, but to only poll those people who have a solid preference one way or the other, will give you skewed poll results.

I voted "Bacon" myself.
But like I said, I get too absurd with the poll too soon. I get what you're saying, some people can pull it off but I would also agree with Eevee that there are some styles that very few outside the lumber industry should try.
But if all things were equal (he looked different but just as good with or without facial hair) you still wouldn't lean slightly towards one preference? If not, 'bacon' was certainly the best choice.

I love my beard. I have also found that women find me more attractive when I have a beard. So it's been almost 4 years since the last time I shaved the whole thing off.

Beards are awesome.

I've had a beard/stubble for close to 20 years now. Except for the one time I was an extra in a movie production and had to shave. That looked..

Nah I like having a close cropped beard gives my face more character seeing as I shave my actual hair with a razor. Only downside is that my beard is slightly ginger for no fucking reason

I'd love to have a beard, but all I can grow is stubbly bits on my chin and a mustache that's patchy as hell. They're both slowly filling in so I have hope to someday be able to grow a decent goatee combination. In the meantime, I must go clean-shaven or be laughed at.

I prefer not to shave my whole face twice a day... which is what I had to do in the army to keep the uniform police off my back. Every day. For eight.fucking.years.

As for reactions to it from the opposite sex... they're mixed. I've been told I look best with a trimmed beard, no beard, scruffy beard... long hair, short hair... every combination one can make with those five choices. Hell, even for... intimate functionality... I've met women who prefer the feel of trimmed beard, scruffy beard or no beard.

Currently, I shave around my beard once a day, and trim it once a week... and keep my hair cut just within the old regulations. Mostly because my current job prefers me to look like I'm ex-military with no sense of humor. As if one could survive the military without developing a sense of humor.

If you've dyed your hair: shave yourself, if the hair colour doesn't match your beard or mustache's hair colour then a smooth face is the best. Other then that, it really depends per person.

You hear this from a dude who looks younger (according to people I look better shaved) when shaved and who has dyed his hair.

I hate having facial hair. I look terrible with it.
SOME people can pull off a good beard, I'm not one of them.

I tend to mock my fellow males at work and my male friends, who do not sport some sort of facial hair. Muttonchops for life!

Yeck, no. It's itchy and since I'm blonde I need a ton of hair to look like I have any kind of beard at all. So I keep it shaved and stubbly, I probably shave once every week or two. It's a pain to do, but the itchiness gets on my nerves.

I kinda wish it'd stop growing.

On the one hand I think my boyfriend looks absolutely adorable when he hasn't shaved for a while. On the other hand it is a bit scratchy. Both those things are pretty trivial so I don't care enough to have a preference. I want him to do whatever makes him comfortable.

These days I mostly keep clean shaven, though I am to lazy, and my facial hair eats razors to quickly to for the 1.5 times a day I would need to stay that way. a while back I kept half a beard just for the fun of it though nothing is quite as fun as seeing someone do a jaw-dropping double take in real life.

I have a pretty heavy beard, and I like a little stubble to define my jawline. I'd try to maintain my stubble rather than shaving it off and growing it back every week, but I'm a little embarrassed to buy one of those "stubble trimmers" that Remington sells.

I could've sworn there was a poll option for "I like women with facial hair"...

Anyway. I tend to keep a few cm/an inch of full-beard in my face with selective trimming for when it goes too wild.

What? Is that option not there anymore?

My boyfriend stays well trimmed. I think facial hair is extremely attractive, just not in excess. But, everyone has their tastes.
