So, Escapist, do you think that a noob is defined by their skill in a game, their knowledge of the game, how they play the game, or their personality?

Noob = Somebody who is bad at the game even tho he has played it for a while, naturaly comes with cheating since you mostly just cheat if you suck(unless it's just funtime).
Newbie = Guy who's bad simply because he's new.

I've figured a noob is someone who trolls without understanding the game. When he finally knows what he's doing, he becomes a griefer.
Noobs are usually associated with being jerkoffs in my experience.
People who are simply new to the game don't deserve to slandered unless they're jerkoffs.

Newbie = Someone who has just started playing a game and hasnt gotten the hang of it yet.
Those are the ways i use the word, because if you brake it down; Newbie = Beginner, meaning you've just started playing a game, but in the sense that Noob is an insult, it refers to someone who plain and simply suck at the game after trying to get good.

Im a newbie at Plants Vs. Zombies, because i just started playing it.
Im a noob at Pacman, because i have never ever completed a single stage, though i've tried every now and then for 10+ years.

I think that a "noob" is the kind of person who not only knows almost nothing about the game, but acts as if they do.
Honestly i think noob is a horribly overused term that should revert to the original meaning of (new)b so that it could be used to describe new players and thats it

all of the above, but my main problem with online gaming is the people who are on ot. Being a dick is just part of the experience (not saying Im one, I only use it for games that need it like Gears of War)
the way I see it, there are the people who whine and complain because they'd rather do that than actually learn how to play the game properly
and then there are the people who use exploits and glitches (which I consider cheating) and then are asses about it, hence griefing

Although sometimes (in, say, RuneScape) I'll use the term in a friendly manner, entering a conversation with "What up, noobs?" and depending on their disposition they'll answer with either "Not much man, sup?" or "STFU ASSRAMMING ******". I obviously prefer the former of the two, but not much you can do about other peoples' reactions.
