Quite a bit of years ago, I liked to play Soldier of Fortune, it was quite fun. I don't know how I was aloud to play that though o_O

And then we got Vice City. I wasn't able to play it until I convinced my parents by saying "I play SOF and that's rated M!" And it totally worked. My parents have never cared about what games I play since then.

My parents never really cared about content enough to stop me from playing something, with the exception of Carmageddon. They never let me buy that game after they saw me playing the demo (which, at that age, I found morbidly hilarious). My mother would complain about the violence in games she saw me playing, but she wouldn't actually stop me. She didn't like swearing either.

What my parents DID have a problem with was how much time I spent playing, and they would try to limit it, but since only one of them was around (and usually busy) at any given time, this wasn't very effective.

They don't care what I play but I have to pay for all the games I buy unless it's a holiday.

I shake my head whenever a 5th grader is talking to me about Grand Theft Auto. It's just sad. Kids have a sense of innocence that they will never get back: let them enjoy it while they can! But of course in today's world, all the other kids are so steeped in crap they shouldn't even know about for years that a kid who can't do all that stuff is just miserable instead.

Sad, sad world we live in...

My parents don't really care too much since my dad used to play a lot of Quake and games like that, but they draw the line at GTA-like games, but I kind of understand that anyway.

Well they don't completely agree with them, but they let me. I'm smart enough not to play the extreme gorefests in front of them anyway. Devil May Cry is fine, CoD4 is fine, Halo is fine. Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears, or RE4 are definitely not fine.

I was reading at a college level when I was 6, my parents wouldn't have been able to stop me from being exposed to violence and sex even if they had wanted to.

Up until the age of 12, they monitored what I played to a point. After that, they figured I was old enough to make my own decisions.

I played mortal kombat at my friends house when I four and I threatened to cut them in half with my hat if they didn't buy me every game I wanted. And knowing I had the skills and the means to do it after playing the game they got me anything I wanted. I'm currently using one as a chair and another as a stool.

actually my mom said videogames were a waste of time a month or two ago and left her speechless.

Yes because i'm 18 :). Even when I was younger though my mom didn't necessarily want me to play mature games but she never checked to see if I was playing them or not. So I would just get other people to buy them and play them and my mom would never know.

The first time I played a violent videogame was when I played Max Payne. It had the child-saftey stuff on, but I also watched it over my dads shoulder when he played it with all the gore and sex. Needless to say my parents don't care.

My parents never really cared. The closest moment my mother came to be disapproving was with Command & Conquer, which she thought was a too war-like (but then, Goldeneye was fine. I guess James Bond is special).

One thing that my mother never liked though is online multiplayer with "strangers". I guess it's the whole "there's weird people out there" thing. Back in the days, online multiplayer was pretty much limited to Diablo and Starcraft. So when she told me she "wasn't sure she really liked the idea" (which was her nice way of saying she didn't want me to do it), I just told her I'd stop. Fortunately, she couldn't really tell if those little people on the screen were being controlled by a living person, and if she came into the room I just hid the chat log somehow by hitting a menu key. Aaah memories.

Back in my younger days where I tried to convince my sister to get DOA Beach Volleyball or whatever because I wanted to see tits, thanks to the infamous GamePro (or was it EGM?) April Fools Day joke about a code that made them topless. My dad laughed and said no.

However, I've been watching crap like Fight Club and Rambo since I was out of the womb. My parents have never batted an eyelash to me wanting to play something violent. Hell, my dad introduced me to shooters. My mom, however, almost puts a hand to her mouth everytime I use the chainsaw in Gears.

My parents are fine with me playing just about anything and in any amount I want as long as I continue to get good grades in school. My friend, however, has a really strict mom who knows next to nothing about games. He can play 1/2 hour a week, only on weekends, after all his homework is done, and not after 8:00 pm. His mom, if she sees any blood in the game at all, will just say (and I'm quoting from my friend here, so beware of hyperbole(but I have seen her when I was at his house with a quite similar reaction)) "oh my god blood! You can't play that it will make you crazy quit that game right now!!!!!"

My parents wouldn't let me buy God of War until I wrote and signed a contract stating their rights after buying the game, such as to 'withhold the game for up to two weeks' 'if either parent observes an increase in children's use of profanity'. They apparently didn't bother to research it, seeing as there is not one cuss in the entirety of God of War.
They also wouldn't let me have any Grand Theft Auto period. In hindsight, I'm grateful, since Grand Theft Auto fucking sucks.
Nowadays, they don't give a shit.
