All of the above, from a certain point of view...but always a danger to those it's pointed at. The problem isn't so much the guns themselves as the people handling them. Do I use a gun to protect my home and myself? Or do I use it to hold up a liquor store? Do I use it to start an insurgency? Or do I use it to go hunt deer? The choice is always that of the wielder. It's just too bad that so many people feel compelled to use them for destructive purposes...I personally like guns, but I'm just a researcher. The most I do is go down to the shooting range with them.

As everyone is saying, it is the crazies and the idiots who make guns dangerous.
Bottom line: Find a way to keep guns away from crazies and idiots and I'll support guns.

Well, I have mixed opinions towards guns. I friend of mine said "a gun is only as dangerous in responsible hands as a can of coke", but I think that's bollocks; it's a damn sight harder to accidentally kill someone with a can. Guns are dagnerous shit, I don't see why you need to carry one around with you.

However, I see nothing wrong with hunting (provided you make a godd use of the kill) or target practice, it seems an enjoyable passtime.

On balance, I don't think they should be legal to the general public, you can find other passtimes, and as I said, guns are dangerous shit.

I find them pretty interesting, like in the variety and different uses.

The pros and cons are kind of balanced too. They can be bad in the wrong hands and very good in the right hands. Family Guy/The Simpsons raised a good point, even if you did get rid of all of the guns it only takes one bad person to get hold of one for all hell to break loose.

In my opinion, the need for guns as self defense is nessesity (a word which I use with a grain of salt) which is only born from the continued existance of guns themselves. Even peopl e in this forum have been saying "we need guns to defend ouselves from people with other guns". But if no one has a gun in the first place, then no one would need a gun themselves to feel safe.
Some people say that they're small or weak, and need a gun to defend themselves from people who are big and strong and can beat them without needing a weapon, but a strong police presence and effective methods of law enforcement are better ways to secure personal safety than a deadly weapon.

Preparedness. You never know what kind of sick freaks are out there, or if we may indeed have to overthrow and reinstate the government (which form it will take remains to be seen) as the Founding Fathers thought.

The most dangerous part of the weapon though, is the person attached to it. A competent, safe-minded, good-natured, and responsible person possessing a gun is not someone to fear. If the person is lacking any of the aforementioned traits, then you have a problem. Ultimately though, a gun is merely a tool.
